Baggies can be sailed well on the river by lightweights though Iwould er towards a Cheshire Cat -I can't say I've sailed a Baggy but have sailed Cheshire Cats over many years and with a considerable amount of success on the river, especially at Desborough. That being said more success on the river comes from reading the wind and currents than the relatively minor differences that the design will make. You'll struggle to find a GRP 12 for that money unless its a Paper Dart which isn't exactly a slow river boat.
Best thing is to find something with the best rig and sails that you can - good luck. You've chosen a lovely club and a great class.

My comments are above under David W
I'd have to look back throught the old year books to check but I'm prtty sure I sailed it in 1976/77.

I remember spending many hours drawing and cutting out a stencil of shaddow writing to spray the name on the side (should have been studying at the time!). Looked great!
Sold to a Miss E Campbell when I bought my first Cheshire Cat which I found incredibly stable in comparison.
The photos seem to show that the one piece beech tiller I made may still be in service?

A really lovely boat - I'm sure you wont be dissapointed. I was just a little tempted to bid myself for a bit of nostalgia!
I changed the colour from yellow to dark blue with a white "Smoothie" bottom over my first winter of ownership. That's about all I can add.

We had cleats on the side deck for the same reason for a few years  - then for single handed sailing. I had them on the windward side in front of the shroud - always accessible but fewer bruises for the crew than behind the shroud.

It's hard to imagine how Sophie would be able to walk around the boat  in her normal style on a run with a hoop in the middle!

There are many in the class who have watched Mr Bill's transome disapearing into the distance! She was frequently spotted in the prizes both at Burton Week and on the circuit in the late 80's/early nineties in the hands of Steve Sallis.

A Baggy with little weight in it is fine in the light stuff - when your lad gets a bit bigger you might stick a bit but by then there will probably be something else on the market.

Mike - obviously it goes without saying that I will be hungry after sailing - looking forward to the sail and the prizegiving. No chance of Fran doing another of her stand up comedy routines I suppose?!

Cheers
