The Gul Series is the family friendly nationwide series for all National 12 sailors. Join us at a Gul Series event for competitive racing on the water and fun off the water at a brilliant range of venues across the UK.
This year the Gul series has been increased to 9 unique events across the country. First up the 12s will be visiting Burghfield Sailing Club on 17th March for the sprint champs; this is quick fire racing keeping crews on their toes. Following this, we take a trip to the fantastic river Trent for an event on 15th April at Trent Valley Sailing Club near Nottingham. This is followed by racing on the beautiful Salcombe Estuary over the early May Bank Holiday weekend (5th to 7th May). We stay on the South Coast for the fourth event at Shoreham SC on the 19th-20th May. The fifth event is at the Royal Harwich Yacht Club on 14th and 15th July.
The highlight of the Gul Series is of course Burton Week where competitors challenge to be recognised as the top 12 sailor of the year. This year's championships will be held at Brixham Yacht Club which has hosted excellent N12 championship events in the past. The four-day event will take place on 18th to 21st August and will include the Burton Cup race and Burton Dinner. Excellent racing, socialising and fun and games are guaranteed!
In September the Gul series again visits the idyllic Solway Firth which is also hosting the 2018 Scottish Championships on 22nd and 23rd September, combining sea, estuary and river sailing in a beautiful setting. The series moves a little further South for the eighth event at Ripon SC on the 6th Oct and then rounds off at Northampton Sailing Club where the Inland Championships will be held on 3rd & 4th November. The Saturday will be the finale of the Gul Series with the series prize giving after racing to be followed by the club's bonfire night celebrations and firework display.
Gul Series events will be sailed under the requirements of the respective Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions for the open meeting and for the Gul Series per this notice.
The Low Point System of scoring in RRS Appendix A will apply.
All references in Appendix A to race or races shall mean event
or events.
The number of events to count will be determined by the number
of events completed, as detailed in the table below:
Events Completed | 8 | 7 | 6 | 5 | 4 | 3 | 2 | 1 |
Events to Count | 4 | 4 | 3 | 3 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 1 |
This modifies RRS A2.
Ties will initially be broken in accordance with RRS A8.1. If a tie remains between two boats, the tie will be broken in favour of the boat with the best score in the last event in which the tied boats raced and scored differently. This modifies RRS A8 and replaces A8.2.
Points will be awarded to a helmsperson, regardless of boat sailed within the series. No change of boat is allowed at individual events.
Overall series prizes will be awarded after the Gul Series finale. Subsidiary prizes will be awarded for the following categories:
Series trophies are provided by the NTOA and funded by a contribution to the series of £1 for each event entry.
Discretionary Gul prizes will be awarded at each of the events in the series, and overall, generously provided by our sponsors, Gul.
Gul bow stickers must be displayed when provided at Gul Series events.
