General National 12 chat / DCB
25 Nov 2009, 08:47
In a rash moment I started to fill out in my mind the application form on this site for the P&B DCB.  When I added VAT at 17.5% and the bill came to well over £12K, I came round with a thump.

Ho Hum must remember to do the lottery this week as sure as hell Father Christmas won't be bringing me one. All of a sudden some of the more expensive DB boats on the secondhand list are looking quite good value!

It will be interesting to see what, if any, impact this boat has on the market........

Would it be feasible to have a more aesthetically pleasing (well to me anyway!) version of P2, ie a single decker with less freeboard or would that just compromise the design?

Popeye.  If residual (monetary) value is a particular issue then perhaps  you need to think about whether a development class is really for you, particularly if the class enters a period of rapid change.  That said I get the impression 12s fare better than most.

...........and the forthcoming RS100 will certainly be one to watch.

My money is on the "tall" boat but would love to be proved wrong.........

Impulse 3132 was sailed quite successfully at our Club some years back.  I am sure helm and crew's weight combined was not 26 stone but I don't think they would mind me saying that they were heavier than usual for a N12.  The boat performed well in a range of wind conditions.

If you enjoy sailing at Bala, think about doing the Long Distance Race next year which normally takes place on the first Saturday in July 09.  The race lasts around about 3 hours. A number of competitors from our Club (Mid Warwickshire YC) go which always includes a couple of Twelves.  Its an opportunity to race on the whole of the lake. (Killer long beats when it is windy but the sleigh ride back is fun!)

There is also a Long Distance pursuit race on the Sunday.

For information we use Glanllyn Camp site which is at the opposite end of the lake to the Club but the facilities are excellent. see http://www.glanllyn.com/  It has its own foreshore so you can sail from there to the Club if your sort out the logistics of getting trolleys to the other end!

So it would seem that it is possible to have two users on the forum with the same user name? Confusing because the above isn't me!

And just when you think you leave all this behind with DB Boats you find they have them fitted to stop the water escaping to fast!!
