To the unitiated can someone tell me what the differences are between a Paradigm 2 and 3?

Would the lower freeboard of a DB be less of an issue to a 6 year old than a swamped Admiral Cupper with the water is coming up through the centreboard case and over the thwart.
I think I know which I would find less scary....... but there again I am not 6!!

Welcome to the world of 12's.  Stick around as you will get loads of useful info from this site which will come in handy during the forthcoming season. If you haven't already done so do join the Association. It is excellent VFM even by Highland standards!!!
Would also  be nice to see some recent photos of your purchase on the database.
Cheers

We are getting a lot of info about the relative benefits of T Foils, but what about the trim tab on the centreboard. Are the new build DCB's being fitted with them. Would they be useful modification retrofitted to older boats? Do they require much adjustment in use and would they be a more practical modification for those of us who sail on small waters?

The ropework in picture 2 looks a bit of a bu**er's muddle! I hope it is simpler than it looks.......

Annie Apple is sailed at our Club.  Was it sold with the gybing board intact?  The current owner hasn't changed anything but from memory it doesn't look particularly different to a normal board apart from the control line arrangement.
That boat goes like Joe Stink on our little puddle, particularly in light winds and carries weight much better than my Foolish.  In those conditions very hard to keep up with, let alone beat.......

Think you will find that the Design 8 is much wider at the beam and the transom. Methinks a Pipedream cover will need some tailoring!!

As a regular visitor to (and sailor) at Wells, I would confirm that the "Marina" is in fact where the boats working on the Wind Farm being created on Sheringham Shoals will be berthed.  The outer harbour channel has been dredged to allow the boats longer access during the tidal window.  As I understand it the spoil hasn't been taken away so could be adjacent to the deep water channel.  Unfortunately I haven't seen the outer harbour at low water for a while so I cannot confirm the lie of the land is, but it could mean that the channel markers might need to be adhered to more ridigdly for a while!
Longer term it will be interesting to see what impact the project has on both the town and the sailing.

I have repaired the main body of my drysuit using puncture repair kit, but using loctite glue, with some success.  Got to be worth a go!

For the trip home a bit of judicious packing and careful driving should suffice and then longer term you can adapt the trailer to fit if you don't want to go to the expense of a new combi set up.

Sorry to be the party pooper but unless SR have changed the material of their Poyester covers in the last few years I personally wouldn't touch them with a jib pole.
I have had covers on a Sprint 15, Comet and a 505 in the past and to my mind they all suffered UV damage far too soon.  The ones I had seemed to have an inner and outer material which seperated as the outer surface degraded.  Shame really as the fit wan't bad at all on the comet and 505 although it was a bit tight on the bows of the Sprint 15.
I would go with the P&B canvas option which I have on my 12 and it has done very well given its age.  I would also recommend Waveloft if you want to go for the polyester/pvc option.  I replaced the SR cover on the Sprint 15 when it had rotted away approx 3 years ago with a Waveloft one and it is showing no sign of wear.  My father has just bought a cover for his Laser from them and it looks particularly robust and fits well.

The colours of that model plane look like the Laser Centre gel coat back catalogue.  Glad to hear N12's are beating the recession. 2010 is shaping up to be a good one for the class.  Happy New Year to one and all!!!!

Good luck with the new toy.  It looks in nice condition.  The only advice I can give is sail it as it is and see how it goes. If you do need to change things do one at a time and evaluate in a range of conditions as it all gets a bit confusing.  I think there is some tuning advice on this site if you need it.
Give yourself plenty of time to get to grips with the boat.  They are a bit different to the Laser 2 and after that boat you will appreciate the light airs qualities guaranteed, been there done that!!!

Not sure if it would complicate things too much, but would it be feasible to apply some form of personal handicapping if it was felt that one group had a perceived advantage?

Quote from: Guest (Guest)Out of interest, what are the key development from the DCB that are likely to fleet to a different level, apart, of course, from the guy who drives her?

I think it is summed up quite nicely in this article.........
