Boats / Instructions / help

This is the National 12 boat database. We are aiming to collect as much information as possible on all the 12s built. We have published everything that the National 12 Owners Association knows. This discussion board is your opportunity to add more . .

Finding a boat
You can search by boat numer, name, design and designer at http://www.national12.org/boats

To add your comments
If a boat is already in the discussion board then simply press reply and add your comments. Tell us about the history of the boat, upload pictures (by clicking ATTACH FILES), add your experiences, where you last saw her, any modifications and anything else relevant.

To comment on a boat not already in the discussion board
If you can't find a boat in the discussion board then simply search for the boat at http://www.national12.org/boats, click on the boat number to see the details then click the ADD YOUR COMMENTS link. This will take you to the correct entry in the discussion board.

To upload pictures.
You can add pictures simply by clicking ATTACH FILES when you post a reply. If the "Attach Files" button isn't visible try clicking the "More Post Options" button. Please keep pictures to less than 100kB and save them in a JPEG format. Resizing them to around 400 pixels wide would also be good.

Credits
Thanks to Ed Willett, Ken Goddard, Kevan Bloor and Michael Brookman who have collected a vast amount of information of years to kick this database off.

Note: The Association's records are amended against information received from owners who in some cases may not have carried out the full registration procedures by applying for a new Registration Certificate. The boat name listed therefore may not be the name shown on the Registration Certificate.

For those who can't live without an electronic diary we've created an iCAL version of the 2007 National 12 fixture list. You can import the events into Outlook and other iCAL compatibile calendars as either vCalendar or iCalendar files.

Click here to download http://www.national12.org/events/2007/Fixture%20List%20iCAL%202007.ics

Or visit the events section http://www.national12.org/events/2007/events.shtml

If you get prompted with an option of opening or saving, then choose save then go into Outlook, select FILE, then IMPORT then select the file you downloaded

Happy sailing

Dear all, to keep these pesky spammers off the discussion board we've added a new protection feature. From now on when you create a new thread or reply as a guest you will be asked to type in the sail number of a 12 from a picture which is displayed at the bottom of the window. It'll only take a couple of seconds and should keep the spammers at bay!

If you are logged in them you can post as normal (an incentive to remember your userID and password!)

Thanks to Alex for providing the fix

Happy discussing

Hi All, I've been in contact with the National Maritime Museum at Falmouth again, it sounds like they are pulling together a great display for the new year which will include a number of 12s (it will be well worth a visit if you are in the Cornwall area between Jan and April)

They are still looking for a modern 12 to contrast the vintage boats they already have. Nathan Harding is kindly loaning his Big Issue for a couple of months (Jan / Feb). But there is a gap for March / April.

Would you be willing to lend your boat or do you know of anyone who might be?

The Museum will cover transportation costs, can collect / return

Please let me know

Happy sailing

Yachts & Yachting are again sponsoring the 'Battle of the Classes' Pursuit Race, on Sunday 14th January at the London  Boat show. Racing is in the dock just outside ExCel. 12s have taken part for the last 4 years. Last year there were 44 different classes entered in total.

Each entry receives two free tickets to the show.

Are you up for representing the class in the race?

Please let me know

Dear all, we're pleased to bring to you a range of interactive coaching sessions covering; tacking, roll tacking, gybing (in light and strong winds) and also tips on upwind sailing.

Have a look and let us know what you think.

We've added a comments section at the bottom of each coaching topic, the idea being that people can add their thoughts and tips to share with others.

PS, we've also put some better quality video up on Google video, have a look at http://www.national12.org/pictures/movies/movie.shtml

I've been trying to think of more interactive way to demonstrate the differentiators of the 12 in a fun way. So i've tried the idea of an "explore the 12" page. I haven't linked it from the main site yet because I want to know if it works for people, whether it is fun and also if it gets the point across.

Anyone who's interested is welcome to have a look and let me know what you think.

If it doesn't work then please let me know what browser and version you are using. And if you think it is missing this point then let me know where

    Thanks

The fleet assembled at Porthpean on the Saturday to be welcomed by a thick sea fog. But at 2pm sharp the fog cleared and a cracking force 4 filled in for the practice race. The race officer set 2 triangles for the race. No prizes for guessing who was showing top form in these conditions, Richard Williams and Lindsay Iles led the race, Tom Stewart & Liz Ross were also steaming along pursued by the Meadowcrofts. The fleet came ashore thinking they'de already had the best race of the week. But Sunday morning dawned with a sunny force 4 - fantastic. After one general recall the OOD put up the black flag and the fleet behaved a bit better. Tom & Liz had a cracking start at the pin end but with the wind off the land the conditions were very shifty so anything could happen up the first beat.

Initially the boats in the middle of the best playing the shifts looked good, but then the wind filled from the left and Richard Williams & Lindsey Iles popped out ahead, it then also filled from the right and Bruce & Clare Johnson looked good. In the end Richard & Lindsey rounded first with Tom & Liz in hot pursuit down the first reach. Tom & Liz kept the pressure on for the next two laps of the triangular course and finally got past to take the lead on lap three.

    Final positions
1st Tom Stewart & Liz Ross
2nd Richard Williams & Lindsey Iles
3rd Steve Sallis & Jenny James
    4th Antony & Jo Gifford
5th Graham Camm & Zoe Ballantyne

1st Corrigan: Nathan Harding & Lucy Horsley

And the dinner is pretty much sold out. But, you might be able to get a last minute ticket from Lesley Iles (number's in the book).

There's lots of people confirmed for the sailing with a few old hands getting back into Twelves specially for the occasion. Some have even been practising and could be quite dangerously quick!

A final call for boats and crews. If anyone is helm-less or willing to lend a boat then please let me know

    Happy sailing

This weekend it's the Weston Open meeting. We'll be sharing with the Moths and Cherubs again. So expect close encounters of the foiling kind!

We've just checked the details on the Weston S.C. website and it looks like the first start is 11am.

Myself and Z are going, who else is coming out to play?

    Ratchet Editor that is.

Many thanks to Mike Cooke for publishing some cracking Ratchets over the last  4 /5 (or is it 6?) years, he's done a very arty job and they've always been a good read (kewl). But he's got a lot of boats to make now so the Association is in need of a new editor.

Please get in touch if you are interested - no formal qualifications required!
