The Sailing Club

Porthpean Sailing Club is an intimate and friendly club near St Austell in Cornwall. Burton week was last at Porthpean in 2001 where we received a very warm welcome and an on-the-water pastie delivery service. The club site is www.porthpeansc.co.uk

Coaching

This year we will be joined by top coach Mark Rushall who will be spending two days observing the fleet and giving advice. Mark will be covering the whole fleet and overall tactics on one day and the other day he’ll be focussing on the up-and-coming part of the fleet. If you were at Weymouth in 2004 you’ll remember how insightful Mark’s coaching is.

Sponsors

With this being the 70th year we have got loads of sponsors, here's some of the stuff you could be getting your hands on:

  • Gill goodies to keep you warm and dry
  • P&B Vouchers, for all your chandlery needs
  • Yachting World had a hand in setting up the class so they have offered free subscriptions to mark the 70th anniversary
  • MarineWare epoxy packs for those emergency repairs
  • Snipe Trailers – you could win a brand new shiny combi trailer!
  • Muc-Off goodie bags to keep your boat nice and shiny

Socials

As well as the on-the-water stuff the social side of the week is looking good. Here’s a sneak preview:

  • Sunday - There will be the Commodores Reception, which promises to be fantastic. Last time they rolled out enough pasties to sink the entire fleet!
  • Monday - Beach Games followed by Band / Disco
  • Tuesday – The Burton week Dinner
  • Wednesday – A BBQ will follow the AGM
  • Thursday –Tour of the St Austell Brewery (with samples!) or river trip
  • Friday – The prizegiving
