Another question....

What does the mast sit on?  If you can get a large stainless plate - see the P&B catalogue for an example - all fit out becomes a lot easier.

I would go from mast to deck, go thru deck to a block.  (Can't remember if single or double)

Take a second line line from base of mast and pass this thru block  and then back to base of mast.  At base of mast round block and then up to a double block secured to front of mast gate.  Thru this block and tie off to another double block.

Repeat this on other side of boat so that both ends are tied to the same double block.

Route control line forward from thwart to front of mast plate and then up to the double block (where the two sides have been tied off) and back to single block at front of  mast plate.  Take line back up to double block and then route back to thwart matching the other side.

The throw in the system is the distance between floor of boat and the deck.

This worked very well on my Waller chapter and am sure it will work for you.  Cracking purchase by the way!

Hi Helen
Is anything going on on the Friday now that it is a bank holiday?  Will the club be open Friday night?  Hoping so....

We will be there.  Planning to bring the boys, might even take them sailing.  Might even bring two boats!

I think that N3455 Bart had one and has always gone very well.  Not sure if it still has one or whether it died at some point and was replaced by something else.  Gerry Ledger now owns the boat.

Entered...
And delighted to report that Mrs M has agreed to crew for me.  All that is now needed is some practice...  and some luck...
Anyone else coming?
Any ideas for accommodation.  What is the deal on camping at the club.  What are the alternative options?
Thanks

Hi Jon, welcome back.
hIt depends how seriously you want to take your club sailing.  To an older boat an upgraded rig may not add a lot of value despite improving performance as Tom outlines.  However if you choose to upgrade to a newer boat it is quite possible to return an older boat to its original rig and take the carbon rig to another boat although this is not seen as often as maybe it is logical to do.
Mast suppliers
Superspar, Selden, Aardvark and Angell are all at the front of the fleet currently
Sailmakers
P&B are clearly proven and very active in the Class.  Speeds have recently purchased the proven Alverbank patterns - but I have yet to see a suit.  There is no reason why they cannot either produce them reliably or develop them further.  North have also been seen at the front of the fleet in the last few years with a Burton Cup win included.
Sails built for an ally mast wont be quite right as the carbon spar does behave differently.
The jib stick and boom are no brainers in my view as they are not part of the measured weight of the boat.  You therefore want the most lightweight kit that is up for the job.  The second bonus of the boom in light winds is that there is less weight pulling down the leech so your main sets better.  The third bonus of the boom is as said before gybing in heavy air.  The final bonus is that if you bang your head it is almost a pleasure.
Hope it helps,
John

So you know what a tie is then Tom?  Do you want one?

Kevin - I like the idea of wings...

Pip - thanks for the ideas I will be in touch.

Everyone else - We probably wont do this just for 10 ties.   I dont want a firm committment right now, I just want to get an idea of the level of interest.

thanks

Yes, the thread title is correct.
2011 is the 75th anniversary of the Class and there is no better way to celebrate such an achievement than with a tie!
Who is interested?  I intend to go for 2, one for best, and well one that is not for best...
Will they even sell ties in 2036?  I think that it is the time for the N12 gentlemen to invest!
Please reply if you are interested so that we can work out costings.  Please say whether you want one or two...
Hopefully those with previous incarnations of the N12 tie will take some photographs and attach them to a reply.
Ladies, do you want anything?
