Hello everyone after a year off the Milton Keynes National 12 open is back on the 2nd June forming the puddle round of the Midland Area series. You could even think of it as the unofficial Puddle National championships.

The plan is the same as previous years with briefing at 10:30, first race 11 o'clock, followed by lunch then 2 races afterwards.
For those who are thinking this sounds interesting but what's MKSC like?

Well it is small friendly sailing club on the edge of Caldecotte lake on the outskirts of MK Vegas with easy access from the A5 and only few roundabouts to negotiate from the M1.

So who's coming along to visit what could be MK Del Garda if the weather and Aylesbury Vale thermal turn up.

Yup it's also most that time of year for our yearly 12 open.

The plan hasn't changed 3 races starting before the club fleet all for the princely sum of £5.

Briefing 10:30

First race 11 o'clock

Lunch with race 2 and 3 to follow.

So who's thinking of coming along?

After a what must a  couple of years sailing Soapdish I'm slowly coming to the conclusion while she is still  a 'head turner' boat a more mainstream 12 might be an idea. So Kez and me are wondering if anyone with a Fooling Foolish or simpler is happy for us to try one before we start boat hunting. While we don't want to be to choosey it would be good to do this somewhere inland in the south east.

On a side note is anyone wants the chance to own Soapdish one of the most iconic National 12's drop me a message.

Thanks

Hello all

This is as formal notice of race as you are going to get for the Milton Keynes SC 12 open. First off please note the date change from the 11th to the 12th JUNE. There was a date class at the club and we had to move the date. I hope this hasn't caused any problems for anyone one was planning to come.

The plan is bacon butties for rigging, first race 11 o'clock followed by a spot of lunch. Then joining in with the club pursuit race with separate starts for different eras of 12 and finally rounding the day off with 'normal' race.

As per last year we will be sharing the lake with the club racing but we will have our own start.

So who's coming along to enjoy some sailing in the countries youngest city?

I know it's short notice and possibly a bit rude posting this considering I won't be sailing due still suffering from a broken leg. If anyone is feeling like they missing a nice friendly opening meeting then MK SC are hold their winter pursuit race this Sunday. Bacon rolls served from 9 o'clock race starts at 11 and last 2 hours, entry fee reasonable.
Would be good to see some 12's there and good chance to get a look at the lake before the open meeting in June.

This might seem a long way off to be thinking about considering the 2015 12 open has just happened (you never know a report might pop up sometime) but it gives me plenty of time sort things out faff around.
A few options to think about are:

Are people really interested in some kind of 2 day event? (There can be free camping on site and the event will be during the summer)

If so how do people want it to work? A couple of races on Saturday followed by an evening doo of some kind or get very old skool and go back to team racing on Saturday with a normal open on the Sunday. (least favourite option for Kez)

If not then keep it to an day’s friendly racing on the Saturday for all types and flavour of National 12. (This might be the proffered option since it looks like 2 events might be struggling for decent turnouts)

Or maybe a third option I’m yet to think about while contemplate life on the train home of an evening?

So what does  everyone think? All suggestions gratefully received and considered.

Ok guys and girls the next chance to some 4 plank racing including all 12 sailors who like a bit lake sailing in the south east is Ely Sailing Club on the 11th July.
The running order for the days racing is as follows:

Briefing, 10:30

First Race 11:00

Second Race 13:00

Last race 14:30/15:00

Tea and Cake 17:00

Entry fee £10 (probably)

It would be really good to get a good turnout this year because next year is a bit of special for the club and the 12 fleet at Ely SC and would be good see if it might worth putting on a special event to celebrate.

It’s bang on a month to go for the Milton Keynes SC first ever National 12 open meeting and first round of the HD sails 4 plank series.  Who’s thinking of coming to land of roundabouts and concrete cows to visit what must be some of the finest city sailing in the country. The sailing club it’s self is on Caldecotte Lake with easy access off the A5, there’s a decent area to rig and wind is pretty constant if blows from south west.

The plan is because it’s the first time 12’s have been to MK SC is to run the racing alongside the club racing.  The first race is a short one starting at 10:30 followed by the second race at 11 o’clock with the third race following lunch and the fourth race around 3 o’clock time should mean everyone is off the water and on the way home at a decent time.

So who’s coming?

Would be good to know numbers for catering and drop me message if you need a crew and I will see what I can sort out.

See you on the 14th of June

I was the other lunch time I was looking at the Saehorse website to see what the latest issue of Seahorse magazine held and noticed Dave Hollom (the creator of Hijack for haven’t got their hands on a copy of the
Newsletter) has been nominated for Seahorse Sailor of the month award. http://www.seahorsemagazine.com/sailor-of-the-month/vote-for-sailor-of-the-month For his Int 14 Departure deign cleaning up at the Worlds in Oz.

I’m thinking it might be good to show some 12-ey support for this relitivly un-sung British navel architected.

General National 12 chat / Barts Bash
20 Sep 2014, 08:36
has anyone else noticed the National 12 is in the top 50 of classes signed up for Barts Bash tomorrow with 52 12's signed up. http://www.bartsbash.co.uk/boat-class/dinghy/national-12
Even if open meeting and Burton Week(end) turnouts are down it shows 12 sailing at a club level might be doing OK :)

After a few hours on the sander I have almost got to the point where it’s time to get sticky on Subversion and sort the cracks and fill the odd ding. Being a bit of hippy at heart I’m thinking it would be good to be as good to the planet as possible while fixing up Subversion. After a bit research I have found this ‘Green Epoxy’ http://www.matrix-composites.co.uk/products-greenpoxy.html from Matrix mouldings.
Has anyone used it? Or knows how good it is?

I have used their Sicomin products before and found them all pretty good, just wondering if this one is as good.

If anyone is looking for an excuse to get the boat out in February. Jack Knight and me are doing the Milton Keynes sailing club Icicle pursuit race.  It’s a 2 hour race starting at 12 o’clock entry fee is about fiver. They also mentioned if 5 or more 12’s turn up they don’t mind giving a class prize of a bottle wine or something.

Jack and I raced there just before Christmas and MK sailing club was very friendly and welcoming. It’s on about 46 acres of water which is fairly open making a great place for a spot of city sailing. It would be great to have some other 12’s joining us in the cold.

See you there

After a very long break from sailing and a even longer one from sailing 12's. I've got the bug back again after a couple of sails at my old stomping ground, Ely Sailing club.
Since I'm going to be near Chester running a mountainboard event on the 3rd Kez and me thought it would be a good excuse to head to Bassweek for a couple of days. So if anyone needs a crew on Monday, Tuesday or maybe Wensday morning drop me a message.
Look foward to catching up with people
