South Cerney SC Open & Vintage / 4p 21st April

Have you finished off varnishing those lovely old vintage / 4 plankers? With Easter approaching fast time to make sure they're all ready for the first Vintage event of the season to take place at South Cerney SC (located just south of Cirencester in the Cotswold Water Park).

The event is also a combined South West & Thames area - so sail once and qualify twice!! One day event with 3 races to be sailed - first race start planned 11am.

Club is easy to find and located about 20-30 mins north of Junc 15 of the M4. Its an old gravel pit - has on islands but is a typical small water with a friendly Club and interesting sailing.

If anyone needs a crew (maybe even a spare boat going) then let me know as the Club has an extensive Cadet fleet so smaller crews are available.

Looking forwards to our first N12 event there (for many years) - a great location esp. for the ACers. Help me show our Club the 12s are the perfect boat for the lake.

If you're palanning on coming let me know so I can help with the catering etc. Also possible to camp at the Club (although rather waterlogged now :-/ ) - if you want to stay over and race on Sunday for a bit of fun should be OK.

Grimley is now back in commission (at last).

Will any measurers be there? I have a new jib and main to be checked.

I will be there with Dolly Daydream N2487 - but not certain which of the "Coven" will be crewing!

Incidently vintage yotters, I have just rescued N2020 the orginal Starfish for restoration.

Thanks Paul - had you down on my list! Know of any other Vintage yachters we could expect? Brian Kitching is hoping the varnish will be dry - hopefully the warmer weather over the last week or so will help.

Not sure if Mr Jones will be out - need to put a call in again. If Gordon isn't sailing her then there may be a spare yacht to sail.

Long range weather forecast shows about a force 3 - so ideal conditions.

David - I did already - but what about the rest of the Spinnaker fleet?? Could we see 5 or 6 from there? - very similar water so you should feel at home.

Excellent! Just a reminder too the galley is open (hot food lunch) and usually they do good home made cakes too.

I may even rustle up something for the 12 sailors for teatime too - just as an extra incentive.

Regretably we will not be seeing much of our Ken (N2300) this season for family reasons, and it may still be a little early for the northern brigade to come out of hibernation, but hopefully we will see lots of southern vintage boats? Have you rung Brian Herring?

Paul as I'm not active on the vintage circuit I was hoping for some assistance from those already attending these events. I've been chasing up a few of the new members to 12s which are in the area that I've been aware of during the last 12 months or so. Mostly these are ACers or 4 planks - not sure who in the region have vintages. Ken just asked if we could make this a Vintage event as Avon got dropped off.

So if you have the contacts and would like to give your cohorts a bit of a push then please do so. Brian Kitching is coming but not sure which craft he's in (nice warm weather for varnishing).

Location is very suitable - relatively central and easy to find.

Maybe at lunch time there may be time for a quick impromptu tuning / setting up as there may be some new 12 owners (and some not so new) that may want a few tips - anyone want to volunteer?

We may even get a few cadets / sailors wanting to have a go post racing so if anyone is not in too much of a hurray to go home let me know. Trying to convert some of the Feva type sailors to get a more interesting (and suitable) boat.
