Have you finished off varnishing those lovely old vintage / 4 plankers? With Easter approaching fast time to make sure they're all ready for the first Vintage event of the season to take place at South Cerney SC (located just south of Cirencester in the Cotswold Water Park).
The event is also a combined South West & Thames area - so sail once and qualify twice!! One day event with 3 races to be sailed - first race start planned 11am.
Club is easy to find and located about 20-30 mins north of Junc 15 of the M4. Its an old gravel pit - has on islands but is a typical small water with a friendly Club and interesting sailing.
If anyone needs a crew (maybe even a spare boat going) then let me know as the Club has an extensive Cadet fleet so smaller crews are available.
Club home website is at;
http://www.southcerneysailingclub.org.uk/
NOR will be added there shortly.
Looking forwards to our first N12 event there (for many years) - a great location esp. for the ACers. Help me show our Club the 12s are the perfect boat for the lake.
If you're palanning on coming let me know so I can help with the catering etc. Also possible to camp at the Club (although rather waterlogged now :-/ ) - if you want to stay over and race on Sunday for a bit of fun should be OK.
Also lots to do for non sailors or make a longer weeked;
Designer shopping at less than high street prices (West Swindon, approx. 10mins from Junct 16);

Good local play place for little 'uns - and big ones can go on the slides too;

Boing - who's coming??
We plan to be there, if only to remember how to sail. :) Grimley is now back in commission (at last).
Will any measurers be there? I have a new jib and main to be checked.
Hi Kean!
I will be there with Dolly Daydream N2487 - but not certain which of the "Coven" will be crewing!
Incidently vintage yotters, I have just rescued N2020 the orginal Starfish for restoration.
Paul
Thanks Paul - had you down on my list! Know of any other Vintage yachters we could expect? Brian Kitching is hoping the varnish will be dry - hopefully the warmer weather over the last week or so will help.
Not sure if Mr Jones will be out - need to put a call in again. If Gordon isn't sailing her then there may be a spare yacht to sail.
Long range weather forecast shows about a force 3 - so ideal conditions.

We're aiming to be there with Flipside.

Thanks Mike - we should at least be in double figures based on a quick tot up of people that I know have said they will come and support.
Kean
Hi Kean - count me in if you haven't already.
Cheers
David - I did already - but what about the rest of the Spinnaker fleet?? Could we see 5 or 6 from there? - very similar water so you should feel at home.

When I saw Dave and Tricia at Burghfield, they said they were planning to be there too.

Excellent! Just a reminder too the galley is open (hot food lunch) and usually they do good home made cakes too.
I may even rustle up something for the 12 sailors for teatime too - just as an extra incentive.
Kean
Regretably we will not be seeing much of our Ken (N2300) this season for family reasons, and it may still be a little early for the northern brigade to come out of hibernation, but hopefully we will see lots of southern vintage boats? Have you rung Brian Herring?
Paul as I'm not active on the vintage circuit I was hoping for some assistance from those already attending these events. I've been chasing up a few of the new members to 12s which are in the area that I've been aware of during the last 12 months or so. Mostly these are ACers or 4 planks - not sure who in the region have vintages. Ken just asked if we could make this a Vintage event as Avon got dropped off.
So if you have the contacts and would like to give your cohorts a bit of a push then please do so. Brian Kitching is coming but not sure which craft he's in (nice warm weather for varnishing).
Location is very suitable - relatively central and easy to find.
Kean
SE 3 and sun according to forecast so ideal conditions.
NOR has not yet been posted on the website :B
Briefing around 10:15 am
First race 11am
Lunch - galley is open
2 Races in quick succession
Tea & prizes
Maybe at lunch time there may be time for a quick impromptu tuning / setting up as there may be some new 12 owners (and some not so new) that may want a few tips - anyone want to volunteer?
We may even get a few cadets / sailors wanting to have a go post racing so if anyone is not in too much of a hurray to go home let me know. Trying to convert some of the Feva type sailors to get a more interesting (and suitable) boat.
Kean
I'll be there. Last time I sailed at South Cerney I was in a Cadet myself so it should be interesting being back on old stamping ground.
Matt N3143
Matt - you may see some of the old cadets there still - they will be out training. FYI - the entrance has moved since you were last there and a new club house too.
Kean
Having just acquired Paradise Pudding I'm planning to come and have a spin. I'll be coming up from spinnaker and am looking forward to it.
James
What a great days sailing - here are the pics to prove it!

Thanks to all those that turned up with boats and a few without that are in the process of getting or just acquired a 12.
Write up will be done shortly.
FYI - Tigress won and beat the DBs
Kean
Photos are great to eat your lunchtime sandwiches to - there's a lovely sequence of a 4 boat wide mark rounding - any gunwhale scrapes from that one?
looks like it was a great day - wish I could have been there. My only consolation is Alex's football season is now over so less time will now be spent ferrying boys around S & SE London and more time sailing!

Event report on Y&Y site.
Close racing, one lot of turns done at least but no scrapes at the marks (that I'm aware of).

Kean, great pics! What happened to Paradise Pudding - James A's Man o' War?
Jim N3470 (Man o' War - Passion Pudding).
James said he was coming - was one of my 'no shows' :'(
Hope the pics make them all feel guilty :B
Tigress won - so maybe thats the boat for BW eh Jim?????
Kean
Thanks Kean and all at South Cerney for a superb day's sailing. Great to have somebody taking photos too (printing one off for Adam now)
Matt
I'm really sorry but I got the dates mixed up and was therefore unable to come.
James
Thanks to all at South Cerney for great day out.
Lots of helpful advice and plenty to work on. Thanks guys.
Thamks Kean & your clubmates - we had a great day. Some excellent photos too, we'll be back for more next year!
Cheers
Hi Kean!
Please pass on to everyone at SCSC our thanks for organising an excellent open meeting; good weather, a bit of a breeze, great organisation and a great day's sailing (even if we did sail like a pair of muppets (excuse was that Shirley was seriously overhung from her works leaving "do" the night before ??)) and let Mr Kitching beat us in his vintage yot). Shame more didn't turn up!
And watch out you northern vintage sailors, Mr K has "carbonised" his boat and is going very fast!
We look forward to seeing y'all at TVSC on 12/13 May!
Paul N2487
Don't worry Jim i will definately be at brixham and have the correct dates.
James
A tuning session would be good on the saturday depending on logistics. Can't wait
