Good afternoon All
I have a vague recollection of seeing an old bit of film of N12 dinghies arriving on a train for a (large ?) regatta.  The thought is that the film was of them being unloaded (or possibly loaded afterwards) into the brake vans ?  Does this jog any memories ?
Thanks Duncan

Our Open Meeting is the 1st of the Scottish Series, being raced over the bank holiday 8).  We are 20 minutes from Glasgow, with motorway the whole way from Carlisle to the last 11 miles (email me for directions). This year we are also hosting the GP14 Scottish Championships with N12 Open, so should be a good weekend.

If anyone is wanting to camp at the open meeting or in the days before to make a holiday of it, then please contact us, as camping will be available in the secure dinghy compound as in previous years.

There should be no problems accessing the loch in the days before the meeting for that much needed practice  :o.

There are a few B&Bs nearby, with hotels within 15 minutes drive.  Campervans can use the public car park overnight, it is on the German caravan club list of stopping points (but currently no facilities after 5pm due to the country park cutting back).

We have not decided on the evening entertainment, might be able to entertain ourselves or have a meal, anyway food will be available (including veggie alternative, to keep some happy).

Can those wishing to come please let me know numbers so we can plan catering etc, also if anyone needs a crew, I shall try to sort them out with a wee one.

SIs should be available shortly, but expect 3 or 4 races each day, starting about mid-day Saturday & finishing early afternoon Sunday.

I have been trying to work out the best way to rig the jib sheets on my Paper Dart.  I think it is totally original (jib pole, not dangly pole) with the fairlead slides on the top of the tanks & one pulley & cleat through the gunwhale.
Compared to previous 12s I have sailed, the jib sheet fairlead seems to be pretty far out board, & the boat does not seem to sit as close to the wind.  Do you use barber haulers to pull the sheeting angle into the centre of the boat ?  The only problem with this is there is only one cleat, & older crews are commenting that they can hold either the sheet or the barber hauler.  Younger crews are not so good at keeping things tight when beating.
Have been thinking back to other classes I sailed in the 70s & 80s, & wondered if anyone had some thoughts.
Thanks  Duncan

I am looking for any historical information regarding transporting boats to meetings in the pre or post war years.  I thought I remembered an article, but can't find it.
The reason for this question comes as an aside to another one from another forum, rail transport, where there was a query regarding "boat waggons."  This has been discussed & probably does not relate to heavy wooden boat carriage, rather steel plate carriage.
I would presume that a 12 plus mast would be carried in the guards' van or special van with end doors due to their light weight & susceptability to damage, or would they be car towed in 1930s to 1950s ?  If anyone can give any information or photos & do not mind it appearing in another forum, I would be greatful.

Many thanks  Duncan

Castle Semple Sailing Club is running its annual 24hr race this weekend if anyone wants to watch the fun.  We have some Challangers competing with patients / staff from the Spinal Injuries Unit in Glasgow.

We are raising funds to build a disabled friendly clubhouse.
As part of the weekend, we take beginners out for sailing experiences ( we would even take experienced 12 sailers out for a taste of a GP14 or Challenger  :B )

Hi All, advanced notice of our meeting on 17 & 18 July in the Scottish series.  We are an inland loch, ideal size for 12s.  Further details will be available nearer the time, but would like an indication of potential numbers for catering and camping etc.

Mobile homes can park in the counrty park car park beside us.  Log cabins are available a few miles away in the country park but will need to be booked fairly soon as this is the Scottish holiday period.  We can manage a few tents in the dinghy park otherwise camping in gardens or the country park.  Hotels etc available within a few miles.

Any queries , please ask  -  also possible numbers please
Many thanks  Duncan Elder

ps if anyone needs a crew or can offer a spare crew, I shall broker this service, also if anyone is mad enough to want to bring a spare boat, I am sure we would find some experienced members who would like a sail  8)

A thief in Paris planned to steal some paintings from the Louvre. After careful planning, he got past security, stole the paintings and made it safely to his van.

However, he was captured only two blocks away when his van ran out of gas.

When asked how he could mastermind such a crime and then make such an obvious error, he replied, "Monsieur, that is the reason I stole the paintings. I had no Monet to buy Degas to make the Van Gogh."

(and you thought I didn't have De Gaulle to send this on to someone else.)

Well, I figure I have nothing Toulouse.

Sacrebleu, as my Marseille, these froggy jokes send you in Seine !.

Hi All
Recently bought the above Tiger, sailing at Castle Semple (Ayrshire/Renfrewshire) & would like to know any history for the boat.  Bought it from Sam near Bolton but don't knoe if he was a member.
Thanks Duncan
