We sailed N3521 at Thorpe Bay and then during the summer got a winged rudder from Composite Craft. It was only used at Salcombe and Northampton. We could see bits of potential but it took some working out to get the best from it. We felt at Weymouth that it made the boat much steadier and easier to sail. We had our best result for quite a few years, with our up wind speed improved. In cut up water on a broad reach/run the whole boat is a much more stable platform to sail.
As with all new bits of kit it is always hard to say how much any single item helps performance, with the DCB they are all new boats in good hands with all new kit. only time will tell.

Do not use metal mast engineering on a carbon mast. Pot rivets and self tap screws do the mast great harm. I have got one of Terry's masts and all the fittings etc are glued on. If you dont make holes in it, support it well and you should not have any problems.

Hi Paul.
We finished in the teens in a home built wooden boat with a retro fitted Composite craft rudder & Stock hung on existing transom fittings. Nothing broke and we were pleased with our results. The rudder blade is a copy of Joe's on his DCB and seems to work, guess it will be a long time before we know what is best, if you are worried about the stregnth of you transom extra foam and carbon adds confidence. If you want any pics of our set up give me a call.

Thanks Tim and all for a super few days sailing. The only thought for next year would be for the tuesday evening. It would seem that not everybody rushed home and for those left it was a bit flat. Could it be considered for next year if the club could be open for a bit of food and a beer and chat on tuesday evening?
PS if anybody has ended up with an extra Alverbank Mainsail cover mine has gone walk about, could you send it back to the IoW.

Hi Go to your local pet shop, sand for the bird cage is good. Use an old tea strainer to apply a fine even coat. If you use to much sand the varnish will not set to a hard surface.
As used on many Pudding boats. dare barry. N3521

Ian. Retro-fitting of a foiling rudder is very simple. My rudder has a ss/rod that fixes the rudder to the transom using an upper and lower gudgeon.ie. The basic stock fits to the boat in a manner similar to a Winder stock. Than only leaves controles to be fitted to suit the driver. There is a cost in buying this bit of kit, but then at one time carbon masts  had the same problem. I can E Mail you a pic if that would help

Ian.
It is all down to age, sex, boat type, weight. If you go onto the Burton web page and look at 'Notice of Race' it explains what cat. each trophy is raced for. Burton week is a great event so come and enjoy yourself.
