Desborough OpenSunday 18th May Three visitors joined four home boats for an excellent day’s sailing in a cool north-easterly, mixed with the trees to provide constant change and amusement. The first race saw Mike Day and Anne Murch lead for the first two laps before being overtaken by John and Mandy Thornton. The lead changed hands a couple more times before John and Mandy won by a few seconds, with Richard Broughton and Alison Gordon third. John and Mandy led earlier in the second race by varying margins but again only finished a few yards ahead of Mike and Anne with Richard and Alison again third. Mike and Anne led for most of the third race before John and Mandy found the right shift on the last beat to slide ahead, this time with Phil and Ben Brown third. There was close racing throughout the fleet and great hospitality from the home club for this meeting, which has been sailed every year since the 1940s – a tradition well worth sustaining. Overall results: 1. N3443 John and Mandy Thornton, Henley SC 2. N3496 Mike Day and Anne Murch, St Catherine’s SC 3. N3332 Richard Broughton and Alison Gordon, Desborough SC
