PRESS RELEASE

January 2008
TAKE A
LOOK AROUND THE DINGHY SAILING SHOW AND SEE WHAT’S NEW FOR 2008
Alongside main stage events, such as Extreme Cruising with Geoff Holt
and the informative and inspiring talks in the show’s coaching area
there is a plethora of other activities taking place around the show to
ensure you have an action packed time at this year’s RYA Dinghy Sailing
Show.
In association with Yachts and Yachting and Suzuki, the 2008 RYA Dinghy
Sailing Show is a real family affair with plenty to keep youngsters
entertained, as well as mum and dad. This year the
show boasts some exciting new attractions. Firstly there’s the
impressive 2008 Olympic display in the Palm Court. Get up close
and personal with sailors of the British Olympic Team and take a closer
look at the kit they will be using in the 2008 Beijing games.
In the West corridor will be a display of the finalists in the Yachts
and Yachting photography competition. Debate which cover would
have been your favourite and see the winning image on the cover of this
year’s show guide.
Other new additions to this year’s show include the Scrap Hull
Challenge, where Dinghy Sailing Magazine has challenged two teams to
design and build a dinghy masterpiece using the materials provided (Hall
3, Great Hall). Also, the Mirror Class Association will be
endeavouring to build a Mirror dinghy from scratch in just two days
(Hall 3, Great Hall) – do you think they’ll do it?
But don’t worry all your old show favourites will still be there too.
Once again Holt are sponsoring the very popular Holt Blow Boat Challenge
(Hall 3, Great Hall) – see if you have the puff to be a winner.
Sailors of all ages will relish the opportunity to race round the cans
with the Model Yachting Association’s remote control model boat racing,
or take in the Club safety boat display in Hall 2 of the Great Hall.
For kids the ideal starting point is the Panorama hall with a special
face painting and colouring competition based on the theme of ‘My Dinghy
Day Out’ taking place.
For those children with an acquisitive nature, why not take part in the
ever popular treasure hunt, whilst the more technically minded can take
part in the Yachts and Yachting ‘Name the boat bits’ competition.
The Dinghy Sailing Show 2008 takes place at Alexandra Palace, London, Saturday 01 and Sunday 02 March.
