Hope these help. They were taken to show off flapper rather than rudder fittings.

The system I used when retro fitting to a pipedream was two gudgeons on the hull and two on the rudder with I think an 18mm stainless steel rod with a pin top and bottom to stop it falling out the bottom or rising up. It is important that at least one of the gudgeons on the rudder is under the gudgeon on the transom. I did it with both underneath, this is probably not necessary and made fitting the rudder very fiddly. I can probably find a photo if you are interested.

Could we do it in Stars, They are a bit more like 12s in that they don't have those silly extra sails and hulls and thingies?

Hey Howard you want to watch how you say that, people might think there are only 12 of us!

Boats / Re: N943 Cheri II

The happiest days of my life have been sailing a National 12. I had two, but it's the first one I remember, N 943. A leaky clinker that I bought green, no idea what I was buying, never sailed before and wanted to learn, and what a boat to learn in! Steel centre plate with block to lower and raise it, cotton sails, wooden mast, what a handful to launch from a public slipway and sail in the Southampton Water. But it was a great experience, forgiving if you spilled wind quick enough and easy enough to get going again after a capsize. It had a heart and my soul still resides in it. I towed it behind a Hillman Imp to many places, including Mudeford Quay. It was wonderful on a broad reach and used to hum with pleasure. Ah, those were the days, I think N 943 is on your register. Long may it tack its way to a place in somebody else's heart.
Cheers, Comic

Yes that probably helps. But maybe not tomorrow if you enjoy yourself too much in the pub before hand ;)

Is there not a saying 'behind every good helm is a great Scottish crew'. Speaking of which as I have singularly failed to find a crew but am committed to coming I am available to crew, although sadly I possibly to not quite fit into the great Scottish crew category!

I have been messing about with a foil on a double floored pipedream with a distinct lack of success, I am not sure how much of the failure was due to boat set up and my total inability to sail these days. Unfortunately I have now sold my foiling rudder with another boat so further experimentation will have to wait until I have built myself a foiling rudder.
I intend to persist, but really just for fun and using the principle, if you are going to come last you might as well do it in with style!

I'm looking for crews for Ripon, Yeadon and Northampton if anybody is looking to add a bit of spice to their life. I can't provide shape shifting but nothing else can be discounted!

General National 12 chat / Crew wanted for Burton
« on: July 04, 2019, 10:46:44 PM »

Looking for a crew for Burton. No great pretentions to beating anybody except to the bar. More important to tackle it in the right spirit than to be a super crew, but I am in no position to be fussy.
You can email me at angusbeyts at gmail dot com.

I'll be there ;D
