Dear all

We've been informed that entries to Hunstanton (part of Norfolk week) will be limited this year and you won't be able to enter on the day (pre-entry only). So whether you intend to do the full week or just plan to enter the Gill series event at Hunstanton please get your entry in a.s.a.p

The full week runs from the 1st - 7th August and the Gill series event is the 1st & 2nd. The event is great fun and from the word on the street we expect there to be lots of 12s going.

The entry form can be downloaded from http://www.norfolkweek.co.uk/11330.html

Happy sailing

Has anyone got in touch with Sedgebrook Hall to see if they will do their normal N12 discount rate for the Saturday night of the open meeting? It's a bit cold in November to take a baby camping.

At the AGM there was a discussion about building the class through clubs fleets. On the website there has been some publicity pack material, tips for organising an open meeting and also tips for promoting 12s at your sailing club. I don't think this was very obvious before so I've made it more visible now. http://www.national12.org/clubs/clubs.shtml

If you have any top tips to add then please post here.

  • how to get people into 12s
  • how to build a club fleet
  • top open meeting organisatino tips
  • anything else club related
Kean  suggested a Google map allowing 12 sailors to pin point their club on the map. Seems like a good idea, I just need to work out how to do this securely
Cheers

Dear all Burton week sailors, hopefully you'll have spotted from the event format that the usual practise race on the Saturday is being replaced with a coaching session instead. We'll be focusing on rig and boat speed and we'll have the video camera out again for post session rig and speed analysis.

cost: It's £10 (free for those in full time education and those coming to Burton week for the first time)
start: 14:00 briefing at the race office (where Janet & Kevan are)

There are 6 boats signed up already. The list I have so far is:

Matt Stiles
Andy Bayliss
Gavin Willis
Terry Cooke
Tim Laws
Tim Gatti
We can squeeze in a few more so please let me know (post here) if you'd like to join ;)

Happy sailing

Yorkshire Ouse 70th Anniversary Weekend Regatta: 6th & 7th September, By Invitation Only

With very mixed feelings, the YOSC Committee has decided that this will be a By Invitation Only event. It has already generated a lot of interest and all those who are either YOSC members or YOSC regulars should now have received their invitations. We already have a waiting list and for anyone who is keen to come, please feel free to ask Ian Purkis to be added to it by emailing him at c.ian.purkis AT btinternet.com We hope to accomodate everyone who wants to come, but must ask those most closely associated with YOSC first. Also, please note it is not a Northern or Vintage Series event as was shown in some places.

Dear All

This is just a quick reminder to all that it is the Yorkshire Dales SC N12 Open Meeting at Grimwith reservoir on Sunday 20th July. After a good turn out at Solway, and hopefully at Filey this weekend, let’s keep the momentum going and go for a good turn out at Grimwith.

When we have sailed at Grimwith previously the sailing has been superb !!

The Club are looking forward to us coming and the first race is scheduled for 11.30am. The recent rain has topped the level up nicely so there is plenty of water to sail on. Maureen will be baking her famous cakes to keep those of us who are heavy enough heavy still !

I know the club would appreciate it if we could let them know some indication of numbers before we turn up, it’s looking good so far, but the more the merrier !. So please can you let me know if you intend to sail so I let the club know.

For those of you who haven’t been before the reservoir is north of Leeds, just to the north of the Pateley Bridge to Grassington road, and if you need further details please have a look at their website, or give me a ring.

http://www.yorkshiredales.sc

Hope you see you there !

Dear all, It's a few years since we last had a poster and I've noticed many are no longer on club notice boards so we're thinking of making a new one.  Below are the last two, both  showing 12s in planing mode.

  • Should we go with another planing picture or show off the family side of the class?
  • Has any one got any cracking high resolution photos?
  • What strap line should we use? (this year's merchandise "Dare to be different"?)
Any inspiration would be appreciated (a.s.a.p as we'd like to get it in the next mailing)

TRENT VALLEY SAILING CLUB â€" VINTAGE SAILING WEEKEND 21/22 JUNE 2008

Saturday 21st June â€" Competitors will be able to sail three separate laps of the course “against the clock” at any time from 10.00am to 4.00pm, and the best time against handicap wins. A compulsory 10 minute break must be taken between laps. All boats over 30 years old may sail, so this includes 4 plankers etc up to N12 #3058; there will be an assortment of other classes including Merlins, etc. Lunch will be at 1.00 and tea at 4.00; a full 3 course TVSC supper will be available the evening at £12 (subject to numbers). Limited overnight accommodation is available in the clubhouse (book early!) and there is lots of space for camping.

Sunday 22nd June â€" This will be a standard “Witchcraft Bailer” handicap meeting for N12 vintage boats only with the first race at 10.30 being a scratch race with the times being used for the second (12.00) and third after lunch at 14.30 â€" the latter two races will be pursuits. The boats will be handicapped in the usual Derwent system with a small allowance to acknowledge the difficulties in overtaking on the river.

Please book early to help with the planning of catering and racing/rescue facilities.

RSS is apparently all the rage for getting new feeds and updates. Does anyone use it? If so I've added an RSS feed to the 12 site. I'd appreciate any feedback - does it work? Is it useful?

You can add the feed from

http://www.national12.org/rss.php

or you may be get a little orange RSS icon in your browser address bar that you can click on

Dear all, we just received this invitatino from the Wilsonian Sailing Club in Kent. Anyone interested? If so please post here. Note the limit is 2 Twelves!

"We have pleasure in inviting your class to send up to two representatives to compete in a new  at Hoo, N. Kent (http://www.wilsoniansc.org.uk) on 1st July. A Notice of Race and an Entry Form for completion by the Class Association and its representatives are attached.

The Wilsonian Grand Prix has previously been run as an open handicap event, regularly attracting over 50 entries. This year's event sees the addition of the 2oak event, with 2oak competitors starting five minutes after the massed starts, permitting the earlier starters to act as pathfinders, minimising navigational demands on 2oak entries. The wide open spaces of the Medway mean that overtaking is usually problem-free, and the earlier starters are expected to be sufficiently spaced out by the time the 2oak competitors catch them as to present minimal interference.

The leading boat in each class will be counted in determining the 2oak results. In addition, 2oak competitors also qualify for overall and category prizes in the Grand Prix.

We already have provisionally a dozen or so classes entered; we hope we can welcome yours too. Please note the deadline on the entry form. In the case of some classes, to ensure we reach the right person we are writing to multiple e-mail addresses - please check with your Association colleagues before sending in an entry!

Dear All

GILL are doing some market research on their sizing and they would love to hear from the 12 class. This is our opportunity to give something back to GILL for their generous sponsorship of the class, so please take five minutes to fill in the questionnaire on the web site and email it back to Lucy Edge at GILL.
