This month's picture is from another DIY enthusiast.
Any idea who it is and what they may have been doing?

General National 12 chat / Who is this?
07 Sep 2009, 10:09
I was sent this image.  It is a 12 sailor taking a photo of himself from inside his buoyancy tank.  Well I had not tried to do this either!

So 1 question for you.
Who is it  ?

Clearly a caption is also required.
Clearly feel free to post your own pictures that you have taken from inside your buoyancy tanks too!

I was pretty impressed with 5th at the Europeans, but Mike has now won the Moth Nationals.  The contenders were all there - it is a great result.  Well done.

Quite simply if you dont know about Seahorse magazine then you should.  It is the monthly magazine of the Royal Ocean Racing Club and is available subscription only.  Each month they have an online poll for the Seahorse Sailor of the Month.

This month there are two nominations.  Some guy who designs Volvo 70s and Jo Richards some guy who sails National Twelves!

Click on the link below to vote.  When I voted I was offered a discounted subscription for six months - I was disappointed to already be a subscriber...  It is not cheap but it is definetly a very interesting read and the discount makes a real difference.

I dont think Jo should win too much more but I think that this would be a good win!  We need to be organised as it is quite possible that more people may have heard of the V70 than the N12.  When you vote reply here to make sure that we keep this at the top of the forum...

On 19th July 2009 it is the London Pride Cancer Walk.  It is a six mile walk along the banks of the Thames in the Chiswick / Hammersmith area of London.  If you so desire it can even be a fun run.

A group of National 12 sailors will be doing this in memory of Bridget Vialls who died in May after a battle against breast cancer.

We have a fund raising page here http://www.justgiving.com/bridgetvialls so you can use this to remember Bridget if you can not join us on the day.

To participate you also need to register individually here, by clicking on “Enter now”: http://supportus.cancerresearchuk.org/londonpride2009

Tom & Natalie Hayhoe are offering a drink of your choice (I will make sure that there is some London Pride) at their home in Hammersmith afterwards.

If you intend to join us then please let me or Abi Hayhoe know.   Email me on john.meadowcroft@fullers.co.uk or Abi on abigail.hayhoe@ukpia.com

This will probably not be great news to many of us, but those visiting this site thinking about starting sailing may be intrigued.

Yes, Janet has 45 entries - and 73 of you wanting to come to the Dinner too.

The dinner is likely to get full soon - there is limited capacity (as yet not quantified) in the sailing club, but I would suggest that if you have only entered the sailing and not booked in for the dinner that you get on and do it if you want too.  If you have not entered you have missed the chance of a free jib, dont miss out on the dinner too!

Tom Stewart will draw a name out of a hat next weekend for the prize of a free P&B jib for one of the 45 early entrants.

Thanks to P&B for the jib that inspired you all to enter - Thanks to you for entering.  Get your friends to come - this event could be huge!

More info www.burtonweek.org including a full list of entrants once we have requested their consent to publish the details - we realise that some of you may have told the other half that you are off on an important business conference to Southend......

[face=Times New Roman]Katy and I are planning to do this and Mad Derek plans to be in the UK for it too.[/face]
[face=Times New Roman]The Bloody Mary event in particular often attracts a good fleet of Twelves - who else is coming out to play?b[/face]

I know that we have yet to publish a notice of race etc but it would be good to start a list of intended entrants so that we can plan well.  This will get transferred to the Burton Week Website when it is launched.  Evidently you will have to fill in the appropriate form and the appropriate cheque later on in order to guarantee your entry.
So....

Dear all
This is 7-8 March 2009 at Alexandra Palace.  I would like a volunteer to co-ordinate our stand please.  Email me on chairman@national12.org
responsibilities include
- liasing with RYA / Alexandra Palace to book space
- co-ordinating manning of the stand
- choosing and then co-ordinating getting a display boat to and from Ally Pally
- setting up and breaking up stand - the stand equipment lives in the loft at Ranelagh SC
A combination of Antony, Graham, Zoe, Bim and myself have led this for more than 10 years and we need a new volunteer to lead this.  Applications taken in strictest confidence.....
Thanks for your help
John

At the forthcoming Earls Court Boat Show from 1-9 December you will be able to see a National Twelve.  Jo Richard's beautifully restored, and devastatingly quick Bouncer N2993 will be on display within a dnighy sailing feature.  Go to Earls Court and see it!

I thought that many of you would be thrilled to hear that Michael Brookman will be going to London in November to receive an RYA Community Award.   He has been nominated initially by Nottingham Sailing Club, but we associated his work in the Twelves as part of the overall joint nomination.

He has been Treasurer and member of Nottingham Sailing Club since 1977 as well as being on the Committee much of that time and doing all the jobs associated with a club run by volunteers - everything from grass cutting/maintenance to race organisation.   Add to this his N12 work - since 1965 both as Records Officer and later combining it with the job of Treasurer.

Michael - we are thrilled for you.  Thank you for your continued support of our Class
