Hi
I am very sad hear this.  I have not seen Martin for a few years.  A jolly nice chap to sail against.  His boats were always immaculately presented.  He did a great job on a Paper Dart earlier this year.  He will be missed.

If anyone can find the deed of gift / clarify that one ever existed then that would be a start!

My understanding of the history is that the Burton Cup was the long race of Burton Week.  Back then all courses were triangles and a normal race 3 laps and the Burton Cup therefore 4 laps.

Normal races have changed over the years.  But the Burton Cup has remained the extended original normal race.

As a result I understand that these revisions are entirely within the spirit of the intention of the race.  I think they represent a significant improvement although I would still like to sail a 2 hr 15 minute race in cracking conditions and not get stopped a little early just because of the clock.

Looking forward to Shoreham!

N3320 was first owned by Barry Johnson.  The Meadowcroft family acquired in 2016 and all of us have enjoyed sailing her since at Upper Thames, with trips to Salcombe, Rutland, Henley, Burghfield, Royal Harwich, Ardleigh, Shoreham and a Burton Week at Brixham in that time.  Now for sale.  A fantastic entry boat to the N12 class!

I too wish to watch the rugby.

With a 1200 first race that should be possible.  If not watching it at the club we will need to find somewhere local to host us.  I believe they are called pubs!

I can't see it on the events list, but Shoreham SC are hosts with racing from Friday 28 to Monday 31.

The Monday is the bank holiday.

Sunshine and great winds promised!

Hi Duncan
I used to have a paradigm
The details below are from memory but won't be far out.
Set up jib halyard with rake of approx 6600 mm from top of mast to middle of transom
Spreaders should be c.380mm length and with aft deflection of c.150mm measured from back of mast to line between the ends of the spreaders.
Keep mast ram eased.
Pull on shrouds equally.mmI can't remember any rig tension numbers.
This should look ok.
Swinging spreaders are fine, but I do tie a line around mine which restricts both being able to be let off at the same time,

Most people at the front of the fleet use rear sheeting, but there are notable exceptions to this too.  It is therefore not a bad idea.

They tend to have a split end mainsheet tied to the transom and then to a block on the outboard end of the boom and to a ratchet block on the boom.  Be carefully not to get garrotted by a loop that then dangles from the boom when you tack.

I think the benefits are generally downwind.  Upwind you must keep the boom centrelines and you have to use more kicker adjustment to get the leech of the sail to be perfect.  This is achievable but harder.

Great weekend.  I am told it was epic!  Thanks to all at Shoreham.  I only got one race myself but loved it.
