2013 Scottish Travellers Series for The Lairwell Trophy  

The 2013 Travellers series was competed over three events at Annandale, Forfar and Solway. The original intention had been to award the Lairwell Trophy for the best results at two events - Forfar and Solway, keeping Annandale separate as it has its own trophy for the Scottish Championships. However given that only two boats attended Forfar,  Annandale has been back into the mix and results based on all three events. The results remain insensitive to either the addition of a discard or exclusion of Forfar.  

Summary Points :

• Superb racing and social event on the inland water of Annnandale SC in April for the Scottish Daily Express Trophy, deservedly retained by Steve and Joanne Sallis.
  
• Gale force winds at Forfar saw only two turn out at this friendly little Club later in April.
  
• Fantastic sea sailing combined with the Palnackie race at Solway In September rounded of the Series, won by Philip David and Elaine Ross.
• 14 boats took part in the series, but only 3 competed in two or more events.
  
• Biggest fleet was 9 at Annandale which was down on 2012 turnout when it was part of the Gill series.
  

Sincere thanks to all the visitors for supporting us and enabling some Class racing. We have some nice historic trophies that do polish up well. The scenery and I'm told our company isnt too bad either! I shall endeavour to muster more support from the Scottish boats next year...or at least try and stimulate some further activity. For 2014 we will aim to keep Annandale and Solway on the calender and possibly add events at either Cramond Boat Club on the Firth of Forth at Edinburgh where Alex Tulloch and I are based, and/or Castle Semple SC in Strathclyde where there are another two 12's.     Ed Willett
