End of term report.
Firstly apologies that the vintage series results have not been updated
as frequently as normal due a few I. T. issues with laptops and mobile
coverage in Suffolk where Tim Gatti is nearing the end of his Boat
Building Course and according to rumours has achieved a Distinction!
To help out prior to Tim’s return in the New Year I have produced this
short report and updated the results for the Witchcraft Bailer Series
2011.
In addition to the series results we are also able to announce the
winner of the Ribbed Boat Trophy for 2011 which is N326 Rose Marie for
the truly exceptional restoration completed in very short time by Nigel
Waller. Nigel not only did a fabulous job of restoring the boat
but then went on to sail her at Northampton and win the Pursuit Race in
grand style against all odds, well done Nigel.
The series was a closely fought battle initially led by Paul Turner and
Christine Preston with Helen and I chasing hard and others also piling
on the pressure. Unfortunately Paul could not make the first of
the Handicap events held at Ripon and we were fortunate to pick up a
first place, with Ed Willett finishing 2nd and Bernard and Ellie Clark
in 3rd. The handicap events are crucial as the rules currently say
that at least one must be counted in the qualifying races, lack of
suitable venues has meant that this year only two events have been to
the DRSC handicap system. The second handicap event was at
Frampton and was won by Tim Gatti after Paul won the first race by a
massive margin and was then suitably handicapped for the next two, Tim
was back on form winning the event from Brian Kitching with Paul in 3rd
place a position he would have to count. The final series result
leaves 1st Howard Chadwick/Helen Nicholson N2266 2nd Paul Turner and
Christine Marshall 3rd Tim Gatti and Ben Palmer N2335. Overall we
have had 16 helms competing with 6 qualifiers.
Unfortunately we have now lost another one of our venues for holding the
Derwent Reservoir Handicap Events, these events are based on a normal
first race with races 2 and 3 being run on a pursuit basis using the
times from race 1 hence it is not practical to run them during combined
area and vintage events. Unless we are able to find any late
offers to host the events on at least another two suitable waters we
will need to revert to straight racing for all events or come up with
another plan. Tim and I are consulting with others on this and any
helpful suggestions or offers of venues will be gratefully received by
either one of us.
Seasons Greetings to all National Twelve sailors and especially our
Vintage Wing friends.
