Burgfield open meeting

Saturday 26th March

The day started still and the 12 fleet contemplated the mirror finish on the lake. Racing was delayed until after lunch when the wind filled in and the fleet had three short races. The wind was very fluky on the first beat and any of the leading six boats could have been first to the windward mark. In the end it was Graham Camm & Zoe Ballantyne who rounded in the lead with Tom Stewart & Clare Hunter hot on their tails. Jon Ibbotson & Charlotte Stewart caught up on the run pressuring Tom & Clare. The three boats battled for the next lap with Graham & Zoe taking the bullet.

In race 2 Tom & Clare got a flying start and sailed into an early lead. Jonno & Char again caught up and kept the pressure on Tom & Clare. The wind died leaving the fleet behind becalmed allowing the leading pair to sail into a clear lead with Tom & Clare taking the line honours.

Dave & Trisha Peacock hit the pin end with speed in the final race and flew off the line however Nigel & Chris White took advantage of the wind filling and lifting the boats on the right to snatch the lead at the windward mark. Graham Camm & Zoe Ballantyne overhauled them on the reach to capture the lead and battled with the Whites and the Jonno & Char to the finish.

Overall results

1st Graham Camm & Zoe Ballantyne

2nd Tom Stewart & Clare Hunter

3rd Jon Ibbotson & Charlotte Stewart
