Latest Chapter
Welcome to The Latest Chapter! This time we're looking forward to Carnac and Burton Week and have an update on the GUL Series after 3 events. Photo of the month has to be John Brown's snap of the fleet heading back into the estuary at Salcombe. I might be a bit biased as this also happens to be my favourite view!

Carnac - one week to go

In less than a week the 12s will be part of a historic trip to Yacht Club de Carnac in Brittany. We're joining over 100 boats including some continental 12 competition! There is a handicap race across all the fleets on Saturday and 3 days of fleet racing. If you're coming along as a spectator, check out the socials section of the event website as there are shore based activities you need to book onto before you arrive.

On the sailing side the main thing is to bring your insurance certificate as the club will need to see it. For more important bits and a few tips before you travel, you need to have a look at the latest article on Yachts and Yachting

GUL Series 2014 - you've got to be in it to win it

Graham Camm and Zoe Ballantyne won round three of the GUL Series 2014 in a great weekend of sailing at Salcombe. Competitors' patience in the challenging light wind conditions was rewarded with a trip over a mile out of the estuary, and of course pasties on the beach.

This year, in addition to pasties on Sunday lunchtime, we also held the Crews' Race. The Fowey Pot was awarded to Sophie Mackley and Ollie Meadowcroft. There was also 12 interest in the Laser fleet where Peter Ballantine won the SW Grand Prix Series open meeting. The full write up of the weekend is on Y&Y and results can be found here. At the prize-giving, Graham thanked GUL for their very generous prizes and sponsorship of the series and the other fleets were left looking a bit jealous.

Overall series results after 3 events are up on the 12 website, proving at this stage that turning up at events is the best tactic!

Shoreham is next on the GUL Series on 21st/22nd June - what better way to get tuned up for the champs at Pevensey just along the coast.

Countdown to Burton Week

It's time to start thinking about Burton Week with just over 3 months to go to the most important event of the year. This year's Burton is at Pevensey Bay SC over the August Bank Holiday weekend (23rd-26th August) with the prestigious Burton Cup race on the Monday.

If your entry ended up on a to-do pile (like mine), then don't delay any longer. The early entry discount runs up to 27th July, but don't wait till then...the first 30 entries will be included in the prize draw for a half price jib from championship winning sailmakers Pinnell & Bax. If you've misplaced your entry form then you can download one here.

When you're entering, don't forget book your places at the Burton Dinner, hosted by the nearby Royal Sovereign Yacht Club, and your tent space if you're camping onsite at Pevensey.

As well as entering, getting the boat out on the sea isn't a bad idea so the Shoreham open meeting on 21st/22nd June is perfectly timed as a warm-up to the Burton.
