Hi all,

I've recently become the proud owner of a vintage National 12 and I'm quite new to sailing, so please excuse any incorrect terminology — I'm more than happy to be corrected as I learn!

My dinghy is letting in a bit of water, and I've noticed a slight gap between two of the lapstrake (clinker) planks. The wood seems solid, but the join shows signs of movement — the varnish is cracked and jagged along the seam.

My plan is to sand the area around the gap, apply an adhesive, clamp it if I can, and then varnish over the repair once it's cured. Does that sound like a reasonable approach?

Also, could anyone recommend the best adhesive for this kind of repair? I want something strong and waterproof that will bond well with the wood.

Many thanks in advance for any advice or guidance — it's very much appreciated!

All the best,

Simon
