Hi,

I am trying to get back into the class for little cost. I have an excellent Laser dinghy for sail on the laser forum  http://www.laserforum.org/showthread.php?p=133716#post133716

If anyone would like to swap for a decent 12 I would be open to offers. Here are the pictures  http://homepage.ntlworld.com/philipj.cosson/laser/
Regards

Get out in some benign conditions and practice - I thnk you will find the first 20 degrees are alarming, but it is actually hard to tip more than that unless you are doing something very silly. confident corrections only when required (don't panic and over correct) should get you sailing - if not very elegantly.
I basically learnt to sail in a Lark and then an N12 - these are not very conventional first boats, but the responsiveness of the hull teaches you quite quickly, and although I'm never going to be a good sailor, i'm much more competant than I would have been if I had learnt in a tank like a wanderer or GP14

What about 3402 - Epilogue? I'm fine with the inclusion of some older boats into the AC definition - i just think a new trophy needs to be awarded for the single bottom brigade, because there will be a significant handicap to carrying all that water around a course.

Looking at the number of views of this thread some of us still think we are young when the evidence is against it

More doublethink than double bottom!

As Antony very well knows, the post from Angus was not about the rule but about the way the rule changed - with no discussion.

I quote "The 'no double bottom' rule was enacted with almost no debate"; this is evidence that this has happened before, and two ungoods don't make a good.
I'm frankly taken aback by the Blackwhite that double bottom boats arn't faster than single bottom boats, it seems any fact can be bent to assist any cause - doubleplus ungood.

That seems quite a big decision to be sneaked out! It'll be OK Angus as long as you don't capsize. Perhaps one of the redundant trophies could be reinterpreted as a prize for the first single bottom admirals cupper?

I'm looking at the audi a2, either petrol or diesel - towbar a bit steep at £600 fitted mind!

Its time for a change in cars. I'm wondering what the smallest car anyone has had success towing a N12 with. I remember seeing a Mini in 2006  but not sure of the engine size.

Hi Tony, good job on the transom; is that carbon or fiberglass?
I used to own 3253 which had a similar space frame. There are two boats in the northern fleet identical with the space frame 3216 and 3217. This frame fouls the kicker, and it is too low; Aardvark issues have experience with creating a spaceframe in carbon - 3217 is sporting a phenominal outfit at the moment.
I would dearly love to have upgraded my boat but we were always going to be too heavy for a baggy.

What a fantastic turn out - i just wish i had been able to sail. Wind was gusting to 40-50MPH at times  - several boats blown off trolleys and a very busy safety boat.
I'm sure I saw a vintage boat virtually leave the water at one stage (that was just before it capsized) - Graham's camera was out and about - so some video might make it onto the web.

Ripon really is a fantastic venue for 12 sailing - well done to all who organise this event and to the fantastic caterers.
