Wyche and Coppock used Aerodux ( resorcinol - phenol) glue when building their boats. This has a much longer life than aerolite; a urea formaldehide glue. Home builders or kit finishers usually used aerolite - hence the long term problem. We should note that Aerodux has a brown colour and so is not the prettiest under varnish.

According to Y & Y Datchet is now open!

If the part is aluminium, it is likely to be an old Holt Allen part. I would recommend replacing with a stainless steel part, but you will then have to replace the bottom fitting on the transom so it fits. The key measurement is the width of the rudder stock.

The data base entry for 2173 is inconsistent. If she is a Starfish then the designer is Mike Noakes. If the designer id Richard Roscoe the the design is a Squid. Perhaps Nick could compare the photos for each design that are on the database with 2173 herself.

The Starfish design is by Mike Noakes so the designer of 2173 should be altered to Mike Noakes if 2173 is a Starfish. If 2173 is designed by Richard Roscoe it is presumably a Squid.

Some polyester bolt ropes do shrink with time. The extruded filaments shrink in length and grow correspondingly fatter. The Jeckylls standard Mirror sails were classic for this. To check for this - when bolt rope is tight - are there still horizontal creases in the mainsail luff? If so bolt rope has shrunk.
The cure is to unsplice the bolt rope from the clew eye and allow the rope to slide up the luff.

If my memory is correct, Ian Proctor sailed a 12 with a gaff rig for a bit.

Write up and photos now on the site.

Memory says utile or gaboon. Utile takes polyurethane paint or varnish better but is denser. I think Wyche and Coppick used utile.

Report and photos available: amplified from that submitted to Y & Y, I just need to find out what Grazz wants.

Food will be available at lunch time. There will also be time to eat it. I shall and I am due to be the OOD!

The front bulkhead provides a lot of structural stiffness. Its replacement with an air bag will mean the bow floats lower after a capsize. I don't think you should remove this. The aft tanks will also provide stiffness. Weigh the hull first. Calculate the weight of the ply that would come out. Calculate the weight of replacement buoyancy. Is the net weight loss significant? I doubt it.

Alternatively why not try a Mirror mainsail as being much more readily available.

I just use my standard name and password and have got a few comments onto the database.
