In 1952 this boat was named Bells and owned by P.E.J. "Joe" Hunt at Trent Valley S.C. Joe was later Commodore of the club.

Battleaxe was first owned by John B. Mason who was a top-flight sailor at Trent Valley Sailing Club.
Information has recently come to hand that eventually in her life she ended up at Sea Scouts in Lincolnshire.

N.2647 is currently underneath the boat shed at Trent Valley. She is in seaworthy condition with full gear. She is owned by John Ryall, a former Trent Valley member who emigrated to the USA about twenty years ago. John took an extended holiday in the UK about three years ago, and did enough 'bimbling' on the boat to get her in sailing condition. The boat shed is about to be demolished and replaced by a new shed. Where N.2647 will be moved is not known.

War Cry is at Trent Valley, August 2012, underneath the Boat Shed. She was bought by the club steward who stripped all the fittings off, with a view to re-painting her. But that's as far as it got. The Boat Shed will be demolished shortly and replaced by a new building at ground level. What will happen to War Cry is not known.

I attach, hopefully, an image of N.3171, sailed by Graham Camm at Trent Valley in 1997.

I agree with Brian Herring. N.18 is not an Uffa King, but probably a Barnt Green One Design. The relatively blunt bow also confirms this opinion.

I would like to join the debate and comment on Paul Turner's choice or type of Heritage National Twelve. In his category, 'first of influential designs' the candidates should include the Proctor Mark 8, which was a bit of a breakthrough in its time. I haven't heard what happened to N.1599 "Octopus" but two good early boats were seen in recent times. N.1626 "Intuition" (Points Winner in 1962) was seen a few years ago and went to Scotland, I think. Perhaps Ed Willett knows of its whereabouts. The other is "Cinzano", N.1777, which was owned and restored by Mike Liggett and is now I understand with John Meadowcroft.
I also question whether the so-called experimental designs are worthy to be called Heritage Boats. I'm not sure that "Four Square" ,Tommy Mann's "Droop", N.1514, ever got a Certificate and has not been seen during my time in the class. As for "Shotgun", this is an interesting boat but does not, in my humble opinion classify as a 'design'. Barry Jones' Micro-clipper design, "Perfect Kiss", is not experimental but of fairly conventional design at the time and is one of many amateur designs which were good on their day but never achieved a production run. In this category you could also include "Mild Sensation" (N.2629), "Scooter" (N.3018), or "Rough Diamond" (N.3102).
Why isn't Witchcraft (N.1153) on the list?

At Trent Valley we have two, slightly bent, fully rigged, Proctor metal masts to dispose of. One is probably a 'C' section, the other is newer and complete with c/f dangly pole. Both are lying at TVSC. Offers? For arrangements to view contact Ken Goddard, at 01332 521168.

N.2238 "Shakuru". This boat sailed in the National 12 races at the Royal Torbay Regatta of 1967. See rather poor quality image of the boat leaving Torquay harbour.

Perhaps it ought to be recorded that "Rose Marie" was rescued from the ISCA collection by Ian Purkis, of the Yorkshire Ouse S.C. around 2006 and bought by Nigel Waller early in 2011, the 75th Anniversary Year.

"Tabitha", and all but one of the National 12's in the ISCA collection, moved on, when this part of the fleet was disbanded in around 2006. Where she went is unknown.

Mr Starfish of Orkney
As Paul Turner suggests I have a couple of images of Starfish-design National 12 dinghies. If you would like to send your email address to goddards.peartreehouse@btinternet.com I will email them to you.

Boats / Re: N2693 Fizzy-O-Therapy

N.2693 variously named "Red Hot Shot" or "Trim Little Pair". The image shows the boat returning to the shore having lost its mast during an early Vintage Twelve Open Meeting at Trent Valley S.C., year 1995. The reason for the retirement was that the joint between the side deck and the rear end of the foredeck failed, due to dodgy glue. The side deck pulled up, taking the shroud with it and the mast came down. Shown in the boat are John Richardson and Christine Preston. The boat was quickly repaired by Arthur Richardson and sold very shortly afterwards, I know not where.

N.2355 "Aeolus II". The image attached shows this boat heading out of Torquay harbour to participate in a race for National 12's at the 1967 Royal Torbay Yacht Club Regatta. This boat was owned by D.C.Wield who I think was a local helmsman but with a connection with one of the Thames Clubs.
