I first met Ken in the late 1960s when my sister crewed for him at TVSC. He was always great company and put so much time and effort into supporting sailing at Trent Lock but he also worked tirelessly at promoting the vintage wing of NTOA. A very kind and thoughtful man. So many happy memories and stories of incidents, including him winning a Derwent meeting only to have the Commodore of that Club pinch his opening joke that he had been rehearsing - but he rose to the occasion! We will miss you, Ken.

Greetings. Only 10 days to go and we only have seven entries for the Vintage Champs and the Sunday Open meeting at Trent Valley. Dust off that clinker yot that you have lurking in your garage/hiding in the dinghy park and sign up. We are welcoming any non-racers who just want to whiz round the bay/chat with other N12 sailors. The Sunday is an all comers standard open meeting. We are holding a Trent Valley rules skittles night on the Saturday evening (with food). So that we can organise catering, please let us if you are coming along even if just to watch and natter. RSVP paul@ryehillfarm.com

Greetings. The Vintage Champs at Trent Valley on 14/15th May are not that far away now, Angus! Who is coming out to play? Graham Camm has already booked "Shotgun", Gerard Copsey "Mr Jones" (subject to dodgy legs), John Sears will be there with N1903 so who else is joining us (even if it's just to watch, eat drink and reminise? Hi Chopper. I have just been in touch with the owner of the CC and he is happy to donate the boat to you. He is digging out the rudder and centreboard, and he thinks that I have the sails and mast; I have serval booms for you to choose from. There is a tatty cover. The boat is at TVSC; we can sort pick up arrangements. Need to check boat number. P

Yo Chopper. There's a Cheshire Cat languishing at TVSC and I've just texted the owner. There' s also a Crusader lurking. Call me if you want to proceed with either. I'm in the handbook.  8) Paul

Greetings. An early date for your diaries - 14th & 15th May 2022 Vintage Champs at Trent Valley. Usual format with three race Derwent Handicap on the Saturday, evening social and Open Meeting on the Sunday. It would be helpful to have an early indication of interest; there will be vintage boats from the Turner Collection available to sail by competent(!) helms. Px

Anyone taking a vintage to NWNW? P :-\

Greetings. Pleased to see that we have a programme for NWNW but sad to see no Brancaster or Sunny Hunny. And looking at the N12 calendar I see that the week is not listed as part of the Vintage series as in previous years??? Was thinking about taking (the) Whisper N2492 so maybe (the) Cheshire Cat instead...? Px

I have just kitted out N2492 Whisper with a dangly pole and found another issue; the bobbles on the end of the dangly pole string and on the jib sheet where they attached to the jib eye often seem to catch on the knicker elastic running up the mast. Bright ideas welcome! Px  :-\

Yo. I intend to be there with one of my fleet. If any competent sailor wants to borrow a boat then please let me know. Usual terms: you collect yot from, and return to, Breaston, trailer provided but bring your own straps and lighting board and "you bend, you mend"! Boats are N1650 Smuggler, N2020 Starfish, N2359 Shotgun, N2399 Mr Jones, N2403 China Doll (I may well sail her), N2492 Whisper, N2750 Cheshire Cat and N3157 Perfect Kiss. Cheers, Px  8)

Excellent evening. Learnt a lot - just hope I can put some of it into action! Many thanks to Meds, Tom, Taxi and Dave, and to George for organising. Px

Greetings. It is with regret that I have to advise y'all that the Trent Valley N12 Open and the Vintage Champs on 15th & 16th May 2021 will have to be cancelled for a number of reasons including lockdown restrictions still winding down (including no access to changing rooms), river bank flood damage requiring major repairs and lack of a resident steward.  Pencil in the same weekend for 2022. I have a jib stick and b/haulers on N2020 Starfish only because that boat is as original as possible; I have a dangly pole on most of the other N12s in the collection because of the reasons per Kevan but do be careful when setting the dangly pole up that when you pull the sheet to push the jib out, the end of the pole goes sideways and doesn't punch a hole on your foredeck! Greetings.

It's now in the NTOA and TVSC calendars for 2021 (in the hope that we will be on top of C19 by then). In addition to the usual two day Vintage (wooden clinker) trophy racing we are opening up the weekend to any vintage boats that would like to come along and just cruise, plus all gongoozlers who want to turn up chat, watch and reminisce will be welcome.

I emailed out to a number of likely suspects last week (apologies if I missed you!) offering the loan of boats from the Turner Collection. Graham has already got his name down for Mr Jones N2399 and George expressed an interest in Cheshire Cat N2750. The eagle eyed will spot that said yot is not vintage so we may well add another section to the racing for 4 plankers - it would be good to have an indication (even now) of vintage, 4 plank, cruising and spectator interest so we start planning.
