At Rippon in the rather gusty conditions I found I was having some problems pointing Agent Orange in the right direction. This was not due to boat heeling and rudder stalling (there was a we bit of that as well). It was because I could not get enough leverage on the tiller to move it. I was wondering if my tiller is too short or my rudder too big or am I just useless. I compared my tiller to a couple of handy boats and it was about 3 inches shorter than Wendy wind blows and about 6 inches shorter than Stumpy's. It is about 51cm from front of stock to tiller extension.
I think I have tree choices, longer tiller smaller rudder or learn to sail better using the sails. I would be interested in peoples thoughts and lenghts of tiller (if thats not too personal). Does an inch or 2 make much difference? I think the way the Northern circuit is going people would prefer it if I did one of the former:o

General National 12 chat / Tummel Week
14 Jul 2008, 10:13
Whos coming to this excellent family week, a must for anybody with a topper or oppy sailor in the family. All at one venue with no tides to worry about and camping on site. Lots of fun for all the family in among some wonderful scenery. This year there should be the added entertainment of me trying out my Moth for the first time. 27th July to 1st August.

I would like to get a team up for this event if there are any scottish 12 sailer out there interested. It is a pretty light hearted a fair with plenty of laughs as crews change. Forfar is an interesting place to sail with a submerged reef up the middle of the loch. The good news is they no longer pump raw sewage into it. Might suit your pipedream   Bob if we can force you out of retirement.;D
Oh I think it is around the 9th of August.

I am on the hunt for a mast to fit a crusader and possibly a boom, or failing that if some body has a rig and looking for a boat to fit it to?
I am not in a position to be fussy so anything considered but it is unlikely I can aford a carbon one unless it is one of those fancy chadwick folding type! ::)

General National 12 chat / Self bailers
14 May 2007, 10:56
One of my self bailers seems to be a super blower rather than a super sucker as when I put it down I get a pretty fountain. This is caused by the sides of the bailer being bent in. I have made several attempts to straighten them but they just go back again as soon as I turn my back. Anybody any ideas or is it a new super sucker. ??)

Now I have my new 12 do mount my cannon port and starboard, or go for a bow and stern chaser. The question is do I try and hit Graham and tom as they sail off into the sunset or do a catch them a broad side as they lap me?
By the way have you heard of this new carrot stuff thats taking over from carbon. I'm looking for a twenty foot carrot to make a mast out of........
P.S. I think I need some new pills. or wa that pils. 8)

My diminutive crew feels the cold rather badly but as he is still growing I am not keen to lash out on a new dry suit it would cost nearly as much as our boat. So is any one out there with a drysuit that their child has grown out of thats looking for a new home. He tells me he is 1.45m tall and he is very skinny. So if any body out there has such a thing I know he would be very greatful and I wouldn't feel quite so guilty when he is crying from the cold in the front of the boat and Jenny Clark won't go through quite so much hot Chocolate. ::)

General National 12 chat / N 3200
13 Nov 2006, 10:12
Can anybody tell me anything about n3200 'Baggins' I am at present negotiating with the owner but I am not reealy in a position to make the long trip down to view her so would be interested in an unbiased view.
By the way sold my China Doll to somebody from inverness at the weekend so that is yet another 12 north of me. ::)
#79
After my stunning performance at the inlands I have decided to sell both my boats to get somthing a bit quicker so if anybody is interested in a ToY or a China Doll give me a shout, I am off course wanting great amounts of money for them to fund my Baggy or Crusader. By the way a ToY is a single hander with a sliding seat not a 12 that you havn't heard of. I might be prepared to transport to the North of England while I am looking for boats.
On that subject what should I go for a Bggy or a Crusader. We have an all up weight of under 15 stone but are only going to get heavier, at least Rohan is and mainly sail on inland waters although we are planing on travelling more next year.

Cann't hep feeling this might have been useful this weekend. There is even a section about attching drogs. May be the Pie twins would find this useful if they want to catch up with Homer and marg :D.
