Boats / Re: N1777 Cinzano
05 Feb 2016, 12:47
I am the builder (from a shell) of Cinzano (N1777) and the original owner.  Thus 'twas I who chose the bi-colour paint scheme that has confused and amused so many for so long. I have been out of touch with the Twelves since 1967 when I sold the last of my four boats. I chose the original low rig to suit the weight of the then crew. I see the boat has also lost her hefty tiller and toe bar that were such a joy in a blow downwind. It is grand to read that Cinzano has given the pleasure to others that she gave to me. She went faster than anything in my wildest dreams, over 50 years ago now. From the photos, she is now very well cared for.

First owner of Mr Chips (N1349) was Keith Musto who went on with Tony Morgan to win an Olympic silver medal in the Flying Dutchman class at Tokyo in 1964. Keith's strategy was to sail round the course safely, letting the others make the mistakes and be overtaken. He also founded the sailing clothing company that bears hs name.

Boats / Re: N1037 Panic

I grew up in my dinghy racing at Desborough Sailing Club. One of our neighbours on the Thames was Staines Sailing Club and I recall going there for a number of open meetings. One of the Twelve fleet at Staines was Panic (N1037) sailed by Vic Love who had one of those spiv moustaches.
