Boats / Re: N3143 Catatonic
06 Aug 2007, 03:46
Catatonic came to me from Desborough, owned by Edward Poet.
Bought by Matt Stiles in May 2006.

Hull stripped and repainted winter 06.

She's been club raced regularly, first at Wraysbury, then at Island Barn Reservoir.  Also has travelled to a few opens - especially inland and local ones.  Photo is at South Cerney, which she won overall.

Are there kids sizes?

Not sure if we can do it, Joe has a school play the night before so might not be good for much.  Have to see how it goes.

Planning to be there -- just as long as the forecast is below F4 so us lightweights can keep the boat upright!

Never been before, what sort of area do we sail in?

Is the camping a free for all or will we need to book a spot?

We plan to be there.

Not good news, I've been keeping my eye open for a DB too.
There again if I had a nice sorted few-year old Foolish I'm not sure I'd be thinking of selling either.  Perhaps we need a radical and fast new design to drive some turnover.  Hang on I'll get me pencil :-)

Tigress sounds like a good recommendation to me.  We're about 16st all up (depending on which son crews) and I'm delighted with my Tigress (3143).

Gets to be hard work in anything above about 12kts or so mind!

Well I've tried to convince Joe, but he's having none of it, sorry!
Mind you he's never played with one of those coloured flappy things they use downwind so he'd be on a bit of a learning curve :-)

Thanks Kean and all at South Cerney for a superb day's sailing.  Great to have somebody taking photos too (printing one off for Adam now)

I'll be there.  Last time I sailed at South Cerney I was in a Cadet myself so it should be interesting being back on old stamping ground.

Thanks all, got one now.  After this weekend I think I agree that 4ft is definitely a bit too long.  Still, I'll persevere before resorting to the hacksaw!

All,
Since I've left half of my tiller extension at the bottom of Burghfield I guess I need a new one.  How long do folk generally go for - about 4ft or so?

Thanks,
Matt

Hi all,
Seeing as Catatonic is getting her winter facelift at the moment I'm wondering whether I should reinstall the mast screw or not...  Seems to me that the screw is good because it can force prebend, but a ram would be more adjustable while sailing.  Because we're such a lightweight pair we almost always want the mast well bent and rig depowered 'though.  What's the thinking on this? (I don't want to do anything too radical so switching to a carbon mast plus lowers is probably out!)

Thanks,
Matt

Ah, that's great that they've turned up somewhere.

I might just be paranoid but I'd rather not post my address on the Internet --- could you drop me an email and I'll respond with the full address?  I'm matt <at> stiles <dot> plus <dot> com

Thanks a lot for finding them!
