I am sure someone more educated than me will expand further, but taking off the bilge keel is only the first (but easy) step. They are no longer required in the rules, only create turbulance and drag so plane them off smooth. Just watch for the screws the builder may have used.
On 3236 they have gone all the way and removed the keel in the centre of the boat, this makes the bottom of the boat smooth. I know you have to be very carefull on this as Gerry did not use a hog at the rear of the boat. So plane it off completely and you may have problems.
What difference does it make? Having sailed both, I know the de keeled boat seems faster down wind and tacks faster as well as the obvious reduction in wetted area and turbulance (and a small amount of weight).
I have pictures on my laptop and will post later.

No No No you want a dekeeled Crusader just like the one I am going to put up for sale today! It was very happy with our 25stones in it and even managed some top 30 places at the Nationals this year. Let me know if you are interested and i can send pictures.

Fantastic event, well organised and a pleasure to be at such a friendly club.
Even the weather was glorious even if the wind was a bit errratic!
Look forward to going again soon!

PS sailing the Foolish was great and having a thwart to sit on means the knees are not to bad today, hhhhmmmmmmm

Hi,
I unpacked the bags last night and Matt has left his spray top at Hykeham.
It is a red RONSTAN top and virually new condition.
Last seen drying on the decking railings on Saturday evening.
If anybody has seen this or taken it by mistake can they let me know.
Thanks
Simon

More change of plans, possibly.
Unfortunately the crew who I had lined up has had a death in the family so is possibly not sailing. To be honest I am not sure if she is or isn't.
So covering all the bases are there going to be any spare crews available for Hykeham to sit in the front of a Foolish?

Slight change of plans Steve. We will still be coming Friday night but Matt and Luke will be sailing 3236. I will be guesting in a borrowed boat. Just waiting for the crewing situation to be confirmed.

Matt and Luke hatched on the way back from Burton Week to start sailing together, starting at Hykeham, to campaign for Burton week 2011.
Then they told me they wanted to do it in a Baggy not a Crusader.... so I am just sponsor now.
The oppertunity appeared to sell the Crusader appeared ( and hopefully goes through!). And I have agreed to buy Mr. Gatti's Baggy.
Its a bit like a house buying chain at present.....
One thing still be worked out, what am I going to sail!

james, On the last day after prize giving (about 5pm) I was looking for Matt size 11 Gul boots which had gone walkabout, which i found in changing room 3 (but they were not there before sailing?), anyway there were a pair of size 8 in the drying room....

Team Fat Boy will be there. Leave us a space for the tent on Friday night, and don't shut the bar before we get there.
