General National 12 chat / Slot gasket
17 Mar 2010, 12:51
In the past I have always used sailcloth slot gaskets, cutting a V at the back of the slot to allow the centreboard slot to selfbail while sailing (or that is the theory anyway). I now need to replace a mylar slot gasket, does anyone have any thoughts on whether I should cut a V at the back of the slot, or just keep it nice and simple with one straight tidy slit for the centreboard?

General National 12 chat / Main Halyard
16 Nov 2008, 10:38
It's time to replace my main halyard before any more of the strands give way. I was planning to use string rather than wire, any advice on what is best to use (dyneema) and what diameter and also the best way to make it off at the bottom of the mast - clamcleat?

What determines if a design is better for lightweights or for heavyweights? I guess the hull sections and rocker have influence but without going into the finer points of naval architecture why? I can understand that a design suited to "lightweights" isn't going to be very quick if sailed by a heavyweight crew due to increased wetted area. Is it the same the other way round, will a light crew be slow in a "heavyweights" boat? If so why? Any thoughts, educated or otherwise.

General National 12 chat / RB12 Mk2
28 Oct 2006, 09:00
Hi, I'm looking to buy a cheap 12 so I can teach my son to sail. Am currently watching an old RB12 Mk2 design boat. Has anyone any info on this design?
