Hi all,

I managed to loose both my transom flaps on Miffy today.

Any suggestions on where I can get a replacement or what people  use to make their own?

Cheers

Jon

Miffy 3466

Hi All,
I'm after some help.
We've recently come back to the class having 5 years out and we've just bought 3466 - Miffy.  We're going to be sailing at West Oxforshire Sailing Club.  Hopefully we can encourage a few others to make the shift to the 12.
Had her first proper race today but I think I need some tuning help.  I dont have enough pre bend in the mast, the spreaders are not doing their job, whatever the rig tension.

The spreaders are not locking out and are bending forwards.  Anyone got any advice?  Rake seems to be in the right ball park, mast is seated properly.  Do I need to increase the length of the spreaders?

Thanks in advance.

Hi all,

Has anyone ever had a purchase scam from the for sale section of this site?

Someone has just offered to buy Chtou Chtou in full without seeing her, was all written in slightly broken english and was talking about shipping it overseas so am a bit fearful.

Anyone know a Lora Jones?  Appologies if she is a regular 12 sailor that I have jsut offended but it all smells a bit fishy!

One line was;
"Let me know the  working capacity and the last price it will go for.
let me read from you soon...."

I am sorry to say that chtou chtou is up for sale :-(
we have decided that we are just too heavy for her and it is spoiling our fun on the water so she is being sold.  We are going to get something that can carry a little more weight, probably a merlin although still undecided.

Thanks to everyone that has helped make this class great and hopefully one day will return.

If anyone is interested in her then please give me a call.  She is a great little boat.

General National 12 chat / Carbon Mast
17 Mar 2007, 12:31
Having spent the day on the stand at the boat show looking at the nice full carbon rig, and getting depressed and how mine looked in comparison, I am considereing making the plunge to a carbon mast?

Anyone got any ideas of the best manufactures?

Anyone got one going 2nd hand?

Sorry for the extremely random and off topic post but thought it would be wortha try!

Basically I am looking for a work placement for a month away from my PhD.   I want a placment doing some kind of design in the marine industry (preferably sailing) and that's where you lot come in!!  I dont even want paying!

I am sure some of you are in or know someone that could help me, :-/

Give me a mail or post if you think you could help.

Thanks and sorry for the random post,

Jon Paton

Are masts allowed to rotate in the rules?
If not then what was the idea behind not allowing them?
I remember someone saying wing sections are not allowed but are there any other limitations?

Hi all,

The crew has finally decided it's too cold so the boat is now tucked up in the garage.  It's going to be the inside of the boat done first and it's in need  of a bit of a tidy up.

Where the varnish has run into the corners at joints it's starting to lift a little.  When it gets to this stage is the only way to get it looking good to strip it all off first? any handy hints would be appreciated.

Anyone shed any light on Gryphon 3214?
She looks like a nice boat, was she a  one off design? was she quick etc.
Thanks

Hi all,

The tow hitch is finally being sorted on the car so travelling will begin!
The next event that is not a billion miles away for us is Grafham Water.  This would be our first meet in the 12 and have only ever sailed her at our local club where rules are not exactly strict!

What do I need to do to be legal?!  I have a measurement certificate that doesn;t look like it has been touched.  What about sai/weightl measurements etc?

Thanks in advance,
Jon

I know some of you will have watched the boat whisperer dvds.
He talks about sailing the boat healed to windward when travelling to windward in light and medium airs..  Anyone tried it in a 12?

Hi all,
I have a crack in my new (old) 12, N3211.  A crusader built by mr ledger with an inbuilt buoyancy tank at the back that is raised about 15cms.  She has a crack that is currently gaffa taped to stop her sinking.  the crack is about 30cms long and runs in the same plane as the centreline.

I was planning to chop out the offending section, stick some wood underneath around the box section for the new section to then be placed upon.  I was also planning to put  a stiffening piece vertically under the new patch too so that i could screw down into it to help get the curve as well as help to stop it happening again. fill and sand. Good news is she is currently painted with non slip in this area so I do not need to match the wood etc.

Questions:
Does this sound ok to do?
what glues/epoxy should I use?

Sorry for the lame description but its not easy without a picture!
Any comments on my plan would be appreciated as I am not exactly an expert but fancied the challenge!

thanks
Jon.

OK imagine a   wing on a modern plane and the small triangles they strap on the end of the wing (winglets).  they act to stop the circulation of flow around the end of the wind making it more efficient.

Why could you not do something similar on a national and have a winglet on the top?

Jon
P.s. if someone steals the idea I want commission!!!
