On Saturday there was someone out on a club rescue boat snapping a few photos, does anyone know who and if the photographs are posted anywhere?  Ken
PS - thanks for a great afternoon's sailing on the Saturday, glad we got two races in.  Thanks also SYC for the usual warm welcome.

Shake Yer Beans coming down from Bristol - need to keep the AC numbers going in Salcombe :-)

Off the boom works just fine for me, very immediate and easy to control the power.
FYI I did try fitting a block on the thwart for my daughters when they started to helm, what a laugh!   Our tiller and extension are not what I would call overly-long, but in a 12ft boat the end of the tiller extension came about 6 inches in front of the mainsheet block on the thwart, that WAS interesting tacking!

3378 holding breath - thanks for organising

Can't see where to vote for a Fotoboat calendar - assume we have missed the deadline then.  Seem to recall they did not have a calendar last year, but some enterprising person in the class organised one.   Does anyone know if there is going to be a 2011 N12 calendar from any source?    Ken

Hi John - got any from the Open weekend in October?  Guess you would not have taken, but wondering if there was anyone on the water snapping away? Ken

We have our main lead to half way along boom then take directly off the boom per the postings above.   Works fine for me, only draw back is that you lose benefit of centre jammer which can be useful sometimes to free up one hand.
My daughters have started to sail our 12 as well in the last few months and since they were used to a centre block on the thwart, I fitted one.  Mistake!   Boat is too short, or tiller extension was too long to get through the gap.  Also the crew has to move all over the shop in windy conditions and the centre ratchet block and the sheet was always getting in the way.
Gone back to taking it direct from the boom, works for me.

Thanks members of SYC for a memorable two day's sailing.  Saturday for the wonderful sunshine and fine breeze, and today for that massive course and some most enjoyable thrill and spills.  Minor breakage on rig tensioning in Shake yer Beans in one of 'those gusts' buy nothing too major, see you for the next Open in May I hope.  Ken and Hugh 3378

Shake Yes Beans coming down from Bristol.  John just noticed the deadline for booking a meal for Saturday night, is it too late to put in an order for three for Saturday Supper?

;D Well THANKS!  3378 Shake yer Beans is our boat since 12 months ago and she is indeed a pretty looking boat.
But there is more to the story than good looks, this is our first 12, so I have no other benchmark for comparison, BUT freak out design certainly does seem to go very well in handicap races.  We race a lot in the handicap fleet at Chew Valley. Chew is a pretty large lake with some pretty good sailors in the mixed fleet.  Over the winter series we were always in top half and have some 1sts, 2nds and 3rds.  The design of course does very well in light winds, but our good results have also been obtained in stronger winds too.
I have been sailing with a total of about 22 stone which is probably a bit on the heavy side, but it seems ok for this design.
Looking forward to finding out how our winter practice will affect our position in the Open Fleet.  We have tons of experience against RS800s, Fireballs and Foiling Moths, but that doesn't count for much against some hot, modern 12s :-)

March 07 - yes now sailing at Chew Valley near Bristol, bought it to teach my kids to race, and we are having great fun with it.  Seems to go well in light airs or a blow. Having fun! Ken
