Sorry for the late notice but :

This coming Saturday we are planning a video session at Northampton Sailing club to get more HD footage for the dinghy show,
There are a couple of boats coming, but the more the merrier, so if you fancy having a bit of a pre-season training sail and don't mind doing the odd strange thing for the camera, please feel free to join in.

If interested, we'll be going on the water at 11am, there will be a slight cost to pay fuel for the use of a RIB, canteen will be open and I'm sure there will be a few funny bits in the video to giggle at at the end of the day!

Please post here if you fancy coming along, would be good to have a range of boats, AC's DB's and vintage all welcome!

I have just started an N12 page on facebook. If you use facebook please 'like' the page so that we can spread the word about the N12! Also feel free to add pics, comments, vids etc so that we can keep the page 'live'. It is not a replacement to this website at all and it would be great to see links appear on the FB page which draw people from FB to this website. The aim is to create an additional 'promotional point for the N12, the advantage of FB being that new messages and topics get seen by a far wider audience.

face book page link is:

I am a little bit late this year with this to say the least... but I got a big kick up the backside today when I saw the  Fotoboat calendar comp on Y&Y this afternoon.
Similar to last year I hope to put together a calendar in the next couple of weeks but in order to do that I need a plentiful supply of images to populate it.

Could I therefore ask that after reading this you immediately search your files for this year's photo (I have seen some excellent ones on the reports of events over the year) and send them to me as quickly as possible. The images do need to be of a fairly high quality so that we can produce the best calendar posssible.

PLEASE PLEASE do this NOW!!!!!! so that I can put it together quickly and get it to the printers in time so that you can get them for christmas.
A sample of the calendar will be avaiable to view here and, like last year it will be pre-order only to save on waste.

Please e-mail images to jeremy(at)designs42.net

or send a CD to me(if you have a lot of images) ... address is in the handbook.
thanks and hope to hear from you soon

With the unfortunate demise of the Island Barn Open Pursuit from the calendar (sorry to hear about it Mike) I thought I could advertise an alternative instead if you were thinking of going along.
Sunday 3rd of October sees the RNLI & Sailability 'Cock of Burghfield' at BSC. This is a three race Open Pursuit day at BSC with first race from 11am followed by two races back to back in the pm .(as it is a pursuit fromat this gives you time to get off the water and have a break between the races due to the handicap of the 12).

As a charity event entry is a mere £3 (as a minimum but donations warmly welcomed). Last year we had a sixy one boat fleet on the water and we are expecting more this year as we have a triple open event the day before and many are expressing an interest is staying on an extra day.

If you are interested in coming along please post here so that I can get an idea of numbers.

I realise this is quite short notice but....

Graham and I have found an empty date in the 12 calendar to put on a bit of coaching and a video session at Burghfield to which all are welcome. The aim of the day is two-fold... firstly coaching and secondly to try and build up a stock of interesting video footage for use by the class for promotional purposes (including Dinghy Show) and training. Hopefully the weather will play ball and we will have a nice sunny F3-4!
If you would like to take part in either the video section or the coaching or both, please post your reply here.... It would be great to get a big mix of boats to come along so that we can get some good footage together. If you have access to a suitable camera please bring it along so that we can create the most footage from different angles!
Cost for the day will be £5 per boat to pay for powerboat usage.

The club is also having a 'Hog Roast' in the early evening to which you are more than welcome. Cost is £10 per adult and £7.50 person youth (U16).

PLease indicate if you want to join the Hog Roast so that I can reserve you some tickets.

Start time for the day will be around 10-10.30.

Feel free to give me a call if you want further info... number in the handbook

Post here if you want to come and join in this 12 fest!!!

Thought I'd take an old tiller extension bend the end and drill a couple of holes in it and strap camera to one end and boat to the other, then go out with George and 66 other boats for Wednesday evening racing!

Even though there is snow on the ground again today, spring is very nearly here and that means the open sailing season is soon to be in full swing.

With this in mind the first of the GILL series is at Burghfield SC on the 27th March 2010. As usual we are operating a pre-registration booking procedure to help plan the event in advance. Format for the day is three races with one discard, first race from 11am with the remaining two races back to back after lunch.

With only two Gill events calendared before Burton Week can you afford to miss out on some big fleet racing?

Please use the link below to pre-register. Note that pre-registration does not require pre-payment but is only to help with early planning and to save you time on the day as all the pre-registered information will automatically be downloaded onto your official entry form saving you the hasssle of writing it all out!

Entry on the day for the event is £18 but if you pre-register this drops to £16

www.burghfieldsailing.org/p343

We are looking this year to provide tea and cakes at the end of the event as having been to Henley for the first time last year I now feel hungry at just the thought of it and want to make sure that you are all equally weighted up as I am at present after relative winter hibernation!

many apologies to all who purchased the N12 calendar, I have been informed by those with more eagle eyes than me that there is an error- unfortunately on the most important dates in it- Burtwon Week!

I missed out the 31st May and so the calendar reads that BW ends on the 2nd of June not 1st as it should.

Please accept my apologies and it will not happen next year!

I have finally got around to sorting out the dates for this years Burghfield Winter Series.
We have decided to cut the number of dates by two this year to encourage more twelves to come to fewer events.

The format is the same as ever with two races per day first at 11am and second at around 1.30pm
Total number of races 8 with a proposed 2 discards.
Entry fee is £5 per day and you may leave your boat at the club by arrangement between dates if you wish.
Dates for the event are as follows:

Sunday 22nd November 2009
Sunday 6th December 2009
Sunday 24th January 2010
Sunday 7th February 2010

Prize giving will be on the final day.
Please can you e-mail me or drop a reply on this thread if you are intending to come along and join the fun.

Thanks

Jeremy

Don't laugh at the name!
The 'cock of Burgfield' is a charity Open Pursuit racing day which encompasses 3 70minute pursuit races. Though an open event we have rarely avderrtised it well so this year we thought we would let people know about it!

The event is on Sunday 4th October 2009 at Burghfield Sailing Club with first race at 11am, second at 1.15pm and third run back to back, giving 12's the chance to come off the water and have a cup of tea before going out again for the third race.

The entry is only £2 per boat but as a charity event all donations are welcome (all proceeds go towards Burghfield sailability).
Prizegiving will be after the last race and with a chance to get your name on the 'Cock of Burghfield' trophy (Which really is stunning!) why not come along and give it a try.

There is no pe-registration, just rock up on the day but it would be nice to see if we can get a group of 12's to the event so please post here if you think you might want to try it out.

Could be a good stopover point for those from the south going to Grafham on the Saturday for the Gill series

For the last two years I have organised a 12 race series over the winter (late nov to feb) and would like to know who might be interested in coming if I were to run it this year.
Could you therefore indicate your interest by posting on this thread in the next couple of weeks so that I can guage the level of interest before organising the series. The format for the races is two per day (on a sunday within club racing) and roughly every two weeks over the winter  with a break over christmas.

thanks

Dear all whom have a camera...

Guess thats everybody then!

I am planning to put together a calendar for next year which will be available through the N12 merchantdising that will include the years N12 sailing fixtures. What I would like to do is use images that encompass the notion of owning a twelve- from racing comtemporary boats to AC's and Vintage- not to mention the odd bit of sandcastle and crabbing which form part of the twelve family.

So if you have any images that you think might make it into the calendar could you please mail them to me so that I can start early and have a huge selection to choose from. PLease only send high quality images (and not all at once if you have alot- it'll crash my PC!)

Thanks

A very big thank you to all those who made it to Burghfield last saturday for the first of the Gill Series, it was a great if somewhat, at times, chilly and challenging start to the series.
With the wind coming from the north- northwest and gusting up to 25knots or so it was never going to be an easy days racing as it shifted about considerably. The race officer set a series of rather complicated courses in order to try and average out the wind conditions and allow for decent beats, but this had the effect of causing a few memory problems for some competitors. With a great mix of boats arriving for the day and an almost even split between DB's and AC's there was competive sailing throughout the fleet. Capsizes abounded throughout the day in the tough conditions with barely a competitor managing to stay upright for the complete set of races. Even those at the top of the fleet found the conditions hard.
There were very close battles at the top of the fleet throughout the day and though Graham a Zoe won the event with two bullets it was only Tom Stewarts windward capzie 20m from the line in the final race which gave them this score. Overall a fantastic day was had and though those with younger crews found it particlualry challenging it was a great showing of how well the 12 suits so many.

There should be video and images coming in the not too distant future but in the meantime the results are posted here:
http://www.burghfieldsailing.org/content/results/show.php?page=2009_open_n12.htm

Look forward to seeing you all again at Salcombe on the frist Bank Holiday weekend in May
