Hi There,

I have N693 and could supply some pics if you let me know which areas are of particular interest I will concentrate on those! All the best.

CapriceII was entrusted to me in July (2007). She had remained in the ownership of the same family since new in 1949. I have been given the original receipts and measurement certificates.
Caprice was one of six National 12's built that year by Morgan Giles, one went to sea aboard a Warship commanded by one of Morgan Giles son's another went to Lymington.
Caprice was built in 1948 and the owners  took delivery in the spring of 1949, she was launched straight out of the building shed.
The original owner tells me 'she was always a delight to sail, but never as close winded as Jack Holt's boats, though she shines of the wind, especially in a force three.'
Some of her blocks are home made using Tufnol or Teak with brass or tufnol sheaves. The Tufnol brackets holding the centreplate lifting rope on each side are taken from a DH Hornet piston engined fighter!
Caprice has her original wooden mast and boom (the boom is broken and has been replaced with another thicker section also of wood) she also has her original cotton sails although the jib needs some repair.
I will post some pictures soon.

2966 is a 4 plank design, I am told by various people that she is to the Cheshire Cat design. The sails bear the original measurers signature dated 1977, however the boat was never officially measured!
I acquired her in August 2006 and first sailed her at Rutland Water in October of that year. N2966 is now sailed at Middle Nene Sailing Club in Northamptonshire.
The attached photos are from that first outing at Rutland Water following refurbishment.

Thank you to those who replied and to Kevan who Emailed me direct. The quick responses and support are what drew me to the class in the first place! Fantastic boats and a fantastic group of people.

Thanks again.

General National 12 chat / Cotton Sails
14 Jul 2007, 09:49
Hello All,

Hope someone can help with some information or advice? I have a vintage N12 and in a canvas bag the original 1948 Cotton Sails!! Unfortunately the Jib has some damage.

I do have some newer sails however it would be lovely to see her on the water with the original rig!

So my problem is who to approach for a repair?

Thanks

Hello there,

I am having some problems finding the link on the events page!! It is probably me! However I would like some directions and details because I would really like to join the party if I can?

Hi all,

I was really sorry not to get to the dinghy show, however I had been closely following the discussion in another thread about the new 12 from a new builder!!

Eagerly I waited for the gossip from the show and comment about this new boat from all who had seen her! Have I missed something?

Rick wrote praising the show yet despite his large contribution to the new boat thread he made no comment! Should I read something into that?

I even tried the P&B website thinking there would be a blurb about the new 12 unveiled at the show if not a picture of it and the colour scheme that many commented on.

Any info? anybody?
