Just filling in a gap in the history of Intuition I can report that she sailed in the Earlswood Lakes Vintage 12 Open Meeting in 1994.

For the record, Chocolate Smartie, N.2573, was sailed by Dougald Weir at the 2003 Vintage Twelve Open Meeting at Earlswood Lakes S.C.

Here is an image of Petawawa being sailed by Chris Dimmick at the Classic & Vintage Racing Dinghy Association's Regatta at Frensham Ponds Sailing Club in 2006.

Witchcraft is a famous boat in the class. I add an image of her taken at the 70th Anniversary Regatta at Pitsford in 2006, being sailed by Howard Steavenson, Robin's son.

It is pleasing to see a good report of Burton Week in Yachts and Yachting and three images. As one who doesn't get around to Open Meetings much these days and doesn't know many of the players, please could someone kindly identify for me the sailors in the 3 pictures, ie the main image of 'boat and sunglasses', the little picture below it of what looks like a DCB, and the out-of-context image on the following page.

Avocet was owned in the early years of the last decade by Kevin Milburn of the Derwent Reservoir S.C. She entered the very windy DRSC Vintage Open Meeting of 2002, but retired. I never saw her after that but I think Kevin continued to keep her in storage for a number of years.

The annual competition at Trent Valley Sailing Club's Open Meeting for National Twelves, for the Challenge Trophy, has the added attraction of a Trophy for the winner's crew. This is in the form of a silver plated pint tankard and was presented by the well-known yachtsman Beecher Moore after a visit to the club in 1946. It was named after his boat at the time, Laughter (N.493) and was thus named the Laughter Tankard. Trent Valley claims that this is the oldest trophy for crews in the Class.
So, crews, pressure your helms to come and race to win at the Open Meeting at Long Eaton, on Sunday May 9th.

Howard, this sounds to have been a good meeting. Is somebody writing a report on the event, hopefully including a picture or two, so that we far away can learn how the sailing went?

Paul Turner is on the point of sending out Notices for the first National 12 Open Meeting in the Midlands - the prestigious Trent Valley event on Sunday, May 9. Last year, this event and the later Vintage and Midlands Series Open in September, both with 19 entries, attracted the largest attendance of an open meeting in the class, exceeded only by Burton Week and some of the Gill meetings. Are you all coming this year?

PS. Network Rail, which owns the access track to the club, alongside the railway, has made a feeble attempt to repair the surface. It's better than it was, but should get us through the year.

The first owner of N.3007, then "Gun Boat", was Nicholas Gill, owner of the Gill Company. The boat was sailed regularly for its first years at Nick's club, Trent Valley Sailing Club, and I think it was at this club that the boat moved to the ownership of Graham Camm.

I saw this boat advertised for sale in around 2007 and went to see her in an overgrown garden, somewhere near Reading. She had been neglected for many years and was in awful condition. I decided not to think about buying and restoring her. I understand that she was in fact bought and taken somewhere in the West Country.

This boat was given by Brian Herring to John Hull, who was then the Manager of the Derwent Reservoir Sailing Club, in around 2000 or 2001. Mr Hull did nothing with it and it rotted away in the dinghy park at DRSC. The boat was written off and burnt, around 2004/5.

While thumbing through my sailing scrapbook I noted this item showing that "Pippin" was a competitor in the 1967 Brixham Y.C. Regatta. See programme below.
