Its not like they are expensive anyway, I'm pretty sure mine cost a lot less than a new jib, and is far more interesting!

The velocitec ones dont do pure VMG as such upwind although they claim they do, as they work back from your tacking angles/position. They don't know where your windward/leeward mark is. The Garmins will do it if you sail off and waypoint your marks before a race.

This is by far and away the cheapest diagnostic tool we can possibly have, and if you want to keep them banned, you'd better get on and ban two boat tuning as well, as we can't all afford to do that. Racing is usually the only opportunity to actually compare your speed and tactics against others and the ability to look back at it would be invaluable.

Also, post race coaching as done at the weekend could be made extremely interesting by overlaying the track logs from anyone with a device, then we can see where the leaders made their gains and the losers made losses. I'm just wondering if anyone knows just how easy this is to do.

Well, for anyone wondering whether the wind died off today...

It didn't! I had a great sail to the bottom of the lake in the moth and then realised that upwind was very windy, made it back in the end after being blown in backwards and allsorts!

I'd say use it, as long as you dont look at it during the race... I put mine face down under the tiller so I cant see it!

Dont you have a job? I thought I looked at the board too often...

I have a spare ally moth boom, may be a bit short though - if you let me know how long you need it...

General National 12 chat / Email woes!

Sorry to forum post this, but I figure it will get to lots of people! I've been having loads of problems with email hosting lately and now the final straw has been drawn...

I'm getting rid of an extra domain I've had from the beginning that I started with and moving everything across to aardvarkracing.co.uk

Anyone with the mike@teamaardvark.org email address in their contacts could they please update with the following mike "at" aardvarkracing.co.uk instead. Apologies if any email to the old address has gone astray, but its been down for days and the old hosting co dont reply...

Website address is the same as always.

We could barely hear it on the Moth stand just behind, and thats not because our speakers were bigger than yours...

I built the prototype for the Hartley boat, they are pretty simple to build as it is just a case of make hull, make deck, glue together. theres a few more large pieces (floor, thwart/box) and a lot more surface area in a N12.

Yup, Childrens shoes for the American Market  :P

I have not passed the threshold for having to register for VAT as yet, and my finest financial friends told me to leave it for as long as I can (thank you Prune&Diamond).

Get em while they're hot

Wood and epoxy isnt cheap. Find a pro builder who will build you a cheap wood boat.

Glass sandwich is cheap, easy and quick. All you need is half a brain, the ability to ask questions, and a mould and there are plenty of these about for rent/free use. You dont have to use carbon to get underweight and we have been over all that before.

We had a pretty recent run on home builds, most of them were pretty cheap and some of them very fast, seems the only problem is finding motivated people.

And Jim, if those people at the front of the fleet hadnt sold up and moved on to newer boats, we wouldnt have nearly 100 db boats. I made a point of selling my last 3 boats after 2 years of ownership, purely because I could, not because I needed to.

If you can let your shrouds off, yes they will be faster, only really noticable offwind...

Only reason they are limited is to stop the mast inverting and going over the bow offwind. I have always let them swing freely and not bothered with limiting them.

We are not adjusting them on the water in regards to sweep if this is what you are enquiring.
Guys ... you have to stop obsessing about the RS200 ... the N12 is a great boat and offers really enjoyable sailing ... put your energies into telling people about the +ves and leave other classes to their own devises ...
Its easy pickings, its a similar hull shape, similar size and is the closest in construction i can think of, in that it is foam sandwich and not hardcore solid glass... Best boat as a guide for an off the shelf product as far as I can see.

Jim, if you leave all your talking to Burton week you wont have any time for sailing.
