I purchased Greight Expectations from Nick H (5 years ago ?) and still own her. Nick had used her very little for some time before parting with her and was in good shape when I took her over.  I also have not used her very much and she remains a shining example of a good all rounder.

Dear all,
I hope some of you will remember me,  Greight Expectations 3334, despite having been scarce for a season or so! I've been taking a sabbatical from sailing (though like any addict I slip back into old habits with little excuse).

As part of this sabbatical I have,  amongst other things, taken up running and have entered the Great North Run, a half marathon and one of the first at that (also my first half marathon).  I hope to complete the run in under 2 hours, ancient (56 year old) knees permitting.

Ah! I can hear you all say, he's looking for sponsorship! Well yes I am!  It may not appeal to all of you and if it doesn't no worries.

I have done stuff for my chosen charity for some 3 years now and if you would be prepared to contribute thank you very much,  I know they do not waste the resources entrusted to them and they do a really good job.

If you are content to sponsor me please use the link below and if you can provide the info they need to grab the tax back from Alistair and Gordon that would be great.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and your support if you have

Chadders,
Your language suggests you were there (or somewhere similar)  I quote "gongratulations" or did Bernard also win a medal?
Roger

Well done Bernard

I have only sailed once at Trent (at a 2 day Gill event (for the benefit of my leaned friend mr laws)).  I did rather enjoy it, having some similarity with sailing at salcombe.  That is hardly a horrid little river and neither in my view is the trent at TVSC.
I do agree with Tim in regard to perhaps reviewing the number of opens, especially regionally,  surely we can agree  a rotation amongst a regions clubs.  there will be some clubs that will not wish to join in,  their loss not ours. My club hosted the Inlands 2 year ago and yet some members are still moaning about it.  lets take fewer opens to venues where we are welcomed and,  crucially, we get more support from our own members.  This is what happens with the Gill events Grafham and bristol seem to be the "pemanent" events with the others ciculating,
I also sympathise with the view expressed by Bernard that it is easier for those of us without permanent crew to do one day events.
But surely the problems alluded to in this thread are the same for all dinghy classes

You are probably correct in thinking a non db boat would be best,  they are said to be less unruly when capsized.  Baggy trousers or crusaders (1st choice all rounder) would be good and  a chunk more money (but a lot less effort in terms of maintenance) would buy a Design 8 (almost a plastic crusader), perfect for salt water sniddling at Salcombe!

Carbon upstairs -  for that light headed feeling?

At Scaling Dam we managed to persuade (like pulling teeth) the race committee to split the 12 fleet int double/single bottom (old /new) which seems to work so long as the race officer knows th e difference between old and new. Just be prepared for negativity and vested interest but keep going why should a 12 of the same age as a GP14 have an advers change of handicap over 15 years,  how can their relative speeds have changed dramatically (in favour of the GP!
