If I'm not mistaken - she lives at Haversham SC and is sporting a smart new paint job. Lots of string. Not sure where the dsign comes from but is very wide!

I'm not sure I understand this carbon stuff.

Carbon masts seem to be light, bendy, cool, a bit brittle and expensive. Other than the weight (which is then corrected with lead!) is it that they can depower earlier and easier and are more responsive to gusts?

For us - ahem - of a slightly larger frame what benefit do they give over a tin mast? (Do any DB's use tin masts?)
With my rapidly growing son crewing we seem to be always looking for power in the N12 - with my "other crew" crewing an outboard motor would be an advantage - so a stiff mast is (I think) what we want.

I seem to recall in the Lark fleet that there were calls for optional stiffer section than the 'C' (as I have in my Lark and N12) to help us lardies. In any real breeze my Lark mast (on which I use considerably more tension than the N12) can seem at times like a piece of wet spaghetti to control.

My mistake - its 1539.

When everythin is not covered in mud, I'll see if the cover can come off and we can get some pictures up.

Congrats to Neil at my club on the excellent restoration of (I think) N1569 (I'll check this weekend) - any more rocker and you could use it as a rocking horse.

Put me down to lend a hand - subject to the usual conditions - of not sailing my plastic boat(s)  elsewhere.

Oh and if over Easter I'll have to be able to bring the dog.

I'm not sure how much wiser we'll be after this but I do suspect it will be a hoot. No real expertise to bring to the party - but I do like BBQ food.

Surely generalised experimentation better than speculation and conjecture? ;-)

All power to the experimenters elbows!

As well as planing could the nose-diving capabilities be looked at?

Had the same problem today in Firefox (2.0) and IE7 - almost had to do some work.

Seems OK now though (Firefox < 2.0)

I had some black marks - and still have some - when I re-varnished the decks (right back to the wood).  I left it a number of weeks to dry out.

I tried a few things to remove them with bleach seeming to the be the best applied very carefully and repeatedly, rinsing and light sanding when dry . I had a control spot to check the difference.

They didn't disappear completely but did lighten - but so did some of the wood around them.

The early coats of varnish did look different over the spots done this way but it equalised later.

No idea about the epoxy or not. I didn't bother with the decks but inside is varnish over epoxy.

Good luck on getting help

The musto skiff survey is good - and I'll subscribe to their newsletter now.

All old and light it appears! ( I'm definitely one and definitely not the other).

I'm the archetypal new N12 sailor in via the low cost AC route - but now with two other boats (N12 is number 3), limited sailing time, limited boat funds and an increasing size crew,  the N12 - beautiful in wood as she is and tucked up nice and dry and warm in the garage - may have to go.

Hugh Chardon - most excellent!!! - the penny drops.

Very much in the same vein as "Norfolk and Chance".
