Are club and the RS association use yahoo groups.
Really easy to set up, you can add members really easily.share files and photos.
And best of all it's free!

Only owned a crusader but it craps on all the plastic fantastics I've ever owned.
I can get round the course nearly as fast in my crusader as I do in my RS vareo!
Inland and light winds maybe and  as soon as it picks up the performance boats shoot off, but it's not bad for a 20 year old boat!

Plus they look fab!

For me there is absolutely no point trying to make a ford fiesta go as fast as a golf gti, or what you are suggesting about cutting off the roof to reduce the weight!

Accept they are not going to be as competitive, otherwise you wouldn;t have bought one, appreciate the fact that your wooden boat looks sexier than their new one, smile while walking down the slipway, laugh on the way back up, have a beer in clubhouse and think about buying a new one!

Don;t try and make them the same, they are not!! and I wouldn't want my boat to have bits cut out of it just to try and keep up with someone that wants to buy a new one. Part of whats great about the 12 is the fact you can trade in when/IF you fancy something quicker.  I think the development should be in the new boats where people want and are willing to pay for it.

p.s. I think we should run a boat of the year competition!  send in photos ofyour boat and see who's got the sexiest!

Hi all,

Just to point your attention to a decent looking boat on apollo duck and looks reasonably priced too.

Sorry I will explain a little further!
Hiking in the merlin rocket in a blow  is about as painful as it gets in my opinion. When my crew went to swap to crew for a chap in a merlin she came running back to the 12 as she said it was horrible hiking in it. It was a pretty old one though things might have changed!

Give her a sail in a Merlin and she will come running back to the 12!

Agree with the web, seems a much more cost effective format than the dvd and probably easier to create.  I do not think it would take all that long to create.  the hard bit is getting one of the top teams to give up a day to demonstrate and finding a camera that doesn't mind getting wet!!

i think it would be great and would help lots of people.

You need the lee helm to be able to push the rudder away a little to create the lift on the board.
You would still get the lift from the hull by moving the mast back so might be a little quicker.

talking of online coaching, this site is very informative.
Would be great to have something for the 12. Any offers?!

I know some of you will have watched the boat whisperer dvds.
He talks about sailing the boat healed to windward when travelling to windward in light and medium airs..  Anyone tried it in a 12?

Hi all,
I have a crack in my new (old) 12, N3211.  A crusader built by mr ledger with an inbuilt buoyancy tank at the back that is raised about 15cms.  She has a crack that is currently gaffa taped to stop her sinking.  the crack is about 30cms long and runs in the same plane as the centreline.

I was planning to chop out the offending section, stick some wood underneath around the box section for the new section to then be placed upon.  I was also planning to put  a stiffening piece vertically under the new patch too so that i could screw down into it to help get the curve as well as help to stop it happening again. fill and sand. Good news is she is currently painted with non slip in this area so I do not need to match the wood etc.

Questions:
Does this sound ok to do?
what glues/epoxy should I use?

Sorry for the lame description but its not easy without a picture!
Any comments on my plan would be appreciated as I am not exactly an expert but fancied the challenge!

thanks
Jon.
