I have spoken to Peter Beck tonight and he says that he thinks that OSSC would be happy to run the Jenny Lee on the evening of Thursday 6 August, with a 7pm start.  We are sailing at Blakeney that morning and Snet isn't till the following morning so it's a free evening.  I have promised Peter (who is going to talk to OSSC's Sailing Sec) that I will get back to him with a response from the class, so who else is up for joining RM/ICM (who might just go Vintage - and I don't mean in terms of sartorial elegance) for a lovely evening sail at this very special venue?

PS  This leaves Wednesday free for crabbing!

General National 12 chat / Boat Racking
25 Mar 2009, 05:52
We are currently investigating how we might increase the capacity of the boat park at Ripon and one of the solutions being considered is to provide racking for Toppers (if any RSC members are reading this please don't panic, it's not for all of them!).  If anyone has any experience of this or can provide pictures of boat racks in action at other clubs we'd be very grateful for the information! :)

Ripon SC will once again be running their Frostbite series, and it starts next Sunday for those not heading off to Northampton.
The series runs on Sundays through to 14 December with three races per day during November, and two per day in December.  It is an open series and it would be great to see some 12's coming along to join in, either for a day or for the series.  Boat berthing at the club during the series may be possible.  If you want further information please get in touch,

It would help with catering if people who are staying for the evening meal could post here or email us - particularly important if you have specific dietary requirements (Angus, we already have you and Rohan down for vegetarian meals, no need to post).
Many thanks

The penultimate meeting of the 2008 Gill series takes place at Ripon Sailing Club on Saturday 4 October, and the club extends a very warm welcome to the National 12 class for this event.

The first race will be at 11am, with briefing at 10.30am.  There will be 3 races, with 2 to count, and the entry fee is £12.  We are delighted to have our regular OOD, Richard Whiteley, in charge of racing for the day.  The event qualifies for the Gill, Old Spice (Northern) and Vintage series.

Camping is available at the club on Saturday night to allow sailors to enjoy the supper and social after sailing on Saturday  - the bar will be open and well stocked - and to hopefully encourage people to attend the open meeting at nearby Yeadon SC the following day.  Camping is also available on Friday night - anyone wishing to stay on Friday night is asked to get in touch with us so that we can make arrangements for access to the club grounds.

The poster for the event will be on the website shortly, and a briefing note will follow in the next few days.

We look forward to welcoming you to Ripon SC.

Team Roly Mo  :)

Just to remind everyone, we have a fantastic 4th event in the Scottish series coming up.  Link to be posted shortly to the NOR and entry form for the 'Cumbraes Event' held at Largs over the Saturday and Sunday of the August Bank Holiday weekend (23 and 24 August).  A day of racing round the cans on Saturday followed by one big race round Cumbrae(s) - presumably the decision on whether to race round one or both is dependent on weather conditions.
This will be a wonderful opportunity to showcase the class - Team Roly Mo will be there - who else is coming out to play?

The third meeting of the Lairwell Trophy series will take place at Solway Yacht Club on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 July.

Solway Yacht Club is situated in the picturesque seaside village of Kippford, on Scotland's glorious Galloway coast.  Racing will take place in the estuary and in Rockcliffe Bay and the Notice of Race is posted on the website.

SYC always make us extremely welcome and those who have been before know just what a super place this is for an open event.  If anyone wants any information about the event please get in touch or post your questions here.

Hope to see you there

Who's coming out for some clinker fun at Hykeham?  Xanthus will be there (am currently busy working out how to fix up cleats for my small crew!) and I know Chadders is planning on being there too.  Here's hoping for some nice light winds and sunshine!

Just a quick reminder that the Scottish Championships will be held at Annandale SC this year, and will take place on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 May 2008.

For those who havn't been before, Annandale SC is situated in the small town of Lochmaben, which is about 10 miles west of Lockerbie.  This is the first time we've held the championships on Inland Water for some time and those of us who have been before know that Annandale SC will host a fantastic weekend for us.  There's plenty of accommodation in the area and we may be treated to the sight of Angus doing some Scottish Country Dancing (with Rohan no doubt looking on despairingly!).

The club are keen to get some idea of attendees so either post here or email us to let us know if you are going to be there.  If you want any more information either contact us or John Hugo.  Hope that we get a good turn out and that lots of you turn up - someone has to try and wrestle that trophy off Homer and Marge!

Happy Sailing

I'm delighted to announce that Graham Camm will be at Ripon SC on Saturday 26 April to run our 'northern' coaching session - we've already got some of you signed up to come along but there is plenty of room for more to join in!  If you are coming along or want more details either post here or get in touch (numbers in the book) with myself or Graham.

Looking forward to a fun day,:)

RM and co

PS   We will be holding a second hand clothing sale at Ripon that afternoon - if you have gear to sell why not bring it along?

General National 12 chat / Blaydon Race

Who's coming out to play for Tynemouth's Blaydon Race next Sunday?  Roly will be there, and the girls are planning on coming too with supplies of hot chocolate for cold sailors.

There's a great weekend of sailing planned in Yorkshire in early October and we're hoping for the warm weather to continue, the wind to be fair and lots of people turning up!

The 2 day N12 extravaganza begins at Ripon SC on Saturday 6 October and continues with a further day of racing, this time at Yeadon SC, on Sunday 7 October.  There is a meal and social at Ripon SC on the Saturday evening, and camping is available at the club for those who wish to stay over.  Last year 100 current and past N12 sailors sat down for supper at Ripon and a warm welcome is extended to those who will be sailing, will be shorebound or who have been involved in the class in the past.  In order to help with catering we do need to have some idea of numbers attending the supper and we'd be grateful if you could let us know if you'd like to join in.

So, now the killer question, who's coming to play?

I know many of you will be getting ready for Burton Week, but I just wanted to remind everyone that the weekend of 25 and 26 August sees the class Scottish Championships being raced for under the burgee of East Lothian Yacht Club at North Berwick.    As it is a Bank Holiday (in England) on the Monday you'll still have plenty of time for all those jobs at home . . . .

ELYC run the most fantastic events and those of us who have been before are looking forward to 2 days of first class racing and sand castle building, but we'd love more of you to come and join us.  There's a briefing note going on to the website shortly, and the NOR will follow soon.  In the meantime if anyone wants more information please get in touch.

In the past the club have been really helpful at finding crews but we'd ask that anyone wanting a crew let's us know by Thursday of next week at the latest due to holiday commitments.

Please find below copy of e-mail just recieved from Filey SC

RM

It is with much regret that Filey Sailing Club has decided to cancel Filey Regatta this weekend (21-22 July). I have sent you this announcement because you have attended a previous Regatta and may therefore be planning on coming this year.

You are probably aware from the national news of the damage caused by flash floods at Filey on Wednesday afternoon. We have tried our best to find a way to run the Regatta despite the flood havoc, but there are too many factors working against us. The key factors are:
Another severe weather warning for Friday afternoon and evening with further very heavy rainfall expected;
Scarborough Borough Council have closed Filey Brigg campsite and withdrawn permission for the Club to use the camping field next to it because of the state of the ground;
The roadway down to the Club is closed to vehicle traffic because of flood damage;
Two way access on to the beach across the Coble Landing presents a hazard for pedestrians and is only possible if the Club indemnifies the Ports Authority; unfortunately our insurance doesn't cover that.
We are very sorry to disappoint the many sailors who were looking forward to sailing on the wonderful waters of Filey Bay, but the problems have proved insuperable.

Our worry now is to stop as many people as possible making an unnecessary journey to Filey. If you could inform anyone you know who is intending to come, we would be very grateful. And ask them to spread the word, too, please. In the meantime in addition to announcements on sailing press and class association websites, we shall be ringing pre-booked competitors and trying to get announcements on TV and radio where possible.

The Regatta will be back in action next July (weather permitting!), and we look forward to welcoming back the many sailors who have discovered the usually sunny delights of Filey Bay.

Best wishes

Who's coming out to play in the waves this weekend?  It's always a great weekend, and it would be good to get enough boats to have our own fleet.

The programme will be updated shortly but this is just to let folk know that sadly this meeting is cancelled for 2007.  The Scottish Series will therefore comprise 4 meetings, 2 to count.  We've already got a bunch of qualifiers but with 2 more meetings (ELYC at the end of August, and DRSC in September) to go the field is wide open.

There are a number of sailing events in Scotland which the N12 fleet have an open invitation to join and further details of these will be published shortly.

Many of you will have received the email from Filey SC regarding their regatta, but for completeness I've asked Graham to hyperlink it from the events page.  You can therefore expect to shortly find the entry form and regatta details by clicking on the Filey open meeting.

If you havn't been before, it is a great meeting, and if we can get 6 boats we get fleet status.   I shall be there, who else is coming out to play?

A poll of the Northern and Scottish fleets suggests that we are going to have a strong vintage fleet at the above, and numbers are already looking v encouraging across the board.  Who's coming to play?   On top of the sailing there's the promise of great cakes and lots of real ale . . . .
