Yep...Tom to the rescue and new heel is in the post. Tom recommended using self tapping screws to hold it in place rather than rivets.
Tom's tip to square it up - tie the spreaders back, get the line between them horizontal and clamp the mast firmly. Then the heel can be lined up plumb vertical.

Hoping to be there in 3491 but does anyone know is there a chandlery there (or nearby) that can fix a new mast heel into a Superspars carbon? Or is it as simple as drilling out the old rivets and popping the new one in with a standard rivet gun? A DIY job for an unskilled rivetter like me?

Cheers

What!? - Crews do all that stuff? Must tell Alex...but he'd probably forget.
Actually that's harsh on a 9yo. For me the best things are - enjoys himself and doesn't moan when the helm steers the boat down the fleet.

I remember this boat sailed at Derwent Reservoir Sailing Club in the early 70s.

Please add me to the "interested" email list.
I think the series results should be without handicapping but a PH system would be interesting on a "nice to know" basis
Cheers Mike

Its a Crusader 88 - the first one built I believe. No idea what differs between it and an bog standard Crusader.

Bilge keels were removed in 2005.

Rescued from years of retirement in a Tyneside garage in early 2004, renamed Mr Incredible  and brought south to sail on the Thames at Desborough and give my son Alex his first sailing experiences. Has been on quite a few travels since, and is a regular on the Thames circuit.

Boat was stiffened up by Dave Ovington way before my time. Rear built in tanks were removed in late 2004 and replaced by bouyancy bags. Currently sporting a carbon boom, jib pole & tiller extension but everything else is wood or tin.

Rarely troubles the front of the fleet and in a force 0-1 struggles to move at all.

Does anyone know the date of the Ranelagh Winter Race next year? Is it Jan 8th?

Despite capisizing twice and not finishing a single race it was the best fun I've had in a boat for a long time. Alex loved it as well. Top marks to Grafham for managing us with the huge numbers of Oppies(at least up until the point that I left - don't know if you all got fed or not!!)

One day I'll finish a Gill series race.

As this seems to be the only thread running about Grafham, I thought I draw everyone's attention to something I found on the Grafham website.

Due to low water levels at Datchet, Grafham will be hosting the Optimist End Of Season Champs on Oct 8th/9th. That's upwards of 300 Oppies on the water plus associated parents/cars/trailers/kit bags etc! The Oppie Class is providing their own race organisation/rescue/shore crew. Hope they are also extending the changing rooms/car park!

I'm sure there will be plenty of space on the reservoir for a few 12's and I'm still planning on coming but I think I might aim to get there a bit earlier than normal.
