Just a quick reminder that the 2007 Lairwell Trophy kicks off next Sunday, 22 April, with the open meeting at Annandale SC.  First race 11.30am - further details from either John Hugo or Bernard Clark.

Two weeks later the 2nd meeting in the series takes place, with a visit to the gloriously picturesque venue of Kippford for a meeting to be shared with the Scottish Enterprise and RS200 fleets and hosted by Solway Yacht Club.  Further details hyperlinked from the event calendar.

Happy Sailing

It's not long till Easter, and soon after that the first of the 2 May Bank Holiday weekends will be upon us.  For those not heading to Salcombe we can offer the treat of some superb sea sailing in one of the most picturesque venues Scotland has to offer.  SYC will host a 2 day open meeting for us on 5 and 6 May, and with a late start on the Saturday and all of Monday to get yourselves back home there's no excuse to miss it!  We will share the event with Enterprises and RS200's - let's try and get a good fleet on the water and show them just what makes 12's so special!

Further details hyperlinked from the events calendar, lots of accommodation in the area listed, plus ideas for non sailors activities - hope to see you there!

Angus (of the Loch Tummel variety) and Marti Pellow (of the Wet Wet Wet variety) in a room together?  Are they one and the same?  Roly Mo opened a sleepy eye the other evening whilst Mrs Roly Mo was watching some dire TV and said 'goodness me, what on earth is Angus doing singing on the BBC' (not a direct quote, but carefully paraphrased to protect the young).

Perhaps Angus didn't go into hibernation after all but instead travelled south to take part in a BBC singing competition!!

It is with much sadness that we report the death of Donald Acklam.  Donald built a number of N12's in his time, and more recently has helped keep some of our older boats afloat and racing (rather than on bonfires) through his skills and advice.

Donald was a great character whose gruff exterior hid a heart of gold and a willingness to use his great skills to repair just about anything.  He will be greatly missed especially by his fellow Yeadon members and the wider northern area National 12 community.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Next Sunday (19 November) will see Tynemouth Sailing Club host the final meeting in the 2006 Old Spice (Northern) Travellers series.  The series result hangs on this meeting and with a record 16 people already qualified for the series we are hoping to squeeze a few more into the qualifiers group.

Racing starts at 11.30am, with 3 races planned.  If anyone is interested in coming along (the event is also open to Lasers, Toppers and Enterprises) and wants more details please contact Howard Steavenson or Howard Elcock.

After sailing the fleet will retire to the Keelman public house to sample the ale (brewed on the premises) and the excellent food.   :)

Interested to know what the highest number of entries is this year for a non-Gill meeting - we are expecting quite a considerable number for the Ripon/Yeadon weekend and it would be nice to know at what point we'd set a record for the year!

Whilst enjoying our summer break on Orkney we came across Stromness Sailing Club (handily placed right by our campsite) and noticed a rather fetching clinker boat in the dinghy park.  On the Thursday evening we realised that there was activity at the club, and went to watch their fleet of Snipes, plus N2090, go out for racing.  N2090 is a Starfish, named Pussy Willow, and she showed some good turns of speed during the 3 races held.

Do we have any 12's any further north than this?

From the canvassing we've done this week it looks like we are already into double figures for the Yorkshire Dales SC open meeting this weekend, but with acres and acres of water there is plenty of room for even more of you come and enjoy the excellent sailing Grimwith Reservoir offers.

If anyone wants any further information please get in touch, looking forward to some great sailing on Sunday, :D

PS  This weekend I get to stretch my legs at the back of the boat and Stewart gets to sit all hunched  up at the front!
