Just seen this National 12 for sale on E Bay on Angelsey North Wales

jusst poked and prodded and found some more rot at the stern of the boat along the 'hog' I think thats what its called Ive cut it out and got a piece of ? Mahogany to put back in which I plan to do with Epoxy resin.My question is is all epoxy resin of the same standard Ive managed to source a local supplier who sells brand SP whichis a fair bit cheeper than West System which I would need to pay postage on top does anyone have any suggestions please. Hope to do the final preparation prior to applying the varnish this weekend but not sure which to buy does anyone have any advice or tips as to what make of varnish to buy and also any tips on application. Many thanks, Moggsey

Good afternoon all, next question regarding the rebuild of my vintage National 12. I only have one self bailer on the boat at present which is like a plunger on the other side the base bracket has been left in place but filled does anyone know where I might purchace a  replacement or am I allowed to replace with a new style? Not quite sure of how things would look esthetically however the bailers do look cumbersome and if knocked by accident might cause some damage to the boat.Once again many thanks in advance for any information.

Hello all it's me again I have now completed sandind down the varnish back down to bare wood ( will try and post pictures over the weekend) Next part is the inside which is varnish with floor painted.My question is can I use paint stripper as I am not going to be able to get at all of the wood with a power sander. I dont want to damage the glue if it came in contact with the stripper. Many thanks in advance .Moggsey b

Hi everyone continuing with the sanding down and have come across my first problem the 'keel' at the stern has two screws approximately 2 1/2" long that are drilled into the bottom of the boat that have now failed around the holes the wood has rotted. My question is should I drill out a slightly larger hole and fill with dowel and Cascamite or does anyone have any other suggestions please.

I have just purchased my first National 12 she had quite a bit of peeling varnish.Having decided to strip her right back to the wood in my garage this weekend have commenced the job but I do have one concern that is that although the garage is bone dry it is quite chilly 1-2 degrees C ( I live in the Brecon Beacons) is this ok to keep sanding down?
