Hi yes all the youths at Olton Mere do have facebook, bebo, msn, myspace and all things like that. That would be quite a good idea as then we can see who is really out there for the youth scene.
Thanks Naomi

Hi,
Was wondering if there has been any desicion on Match racing or team racing to be happening at Olton Mere? There has been much talk of the subject.... but nothing is on the calander... is it going to happen or is it a pipe dream. The Young people at Olton are ready to show you all a good time:)!!!! And the boats are getting prepped for the coming season with carbon dangly poles, a reattachment of decks 2 hulls and a pink boat!!!
So any news out there.... we are so keen (well i am)??
Thanks Naomi

Over a year!!! i have never heard of it before... i have heard of team racing. But not match racing. Does this mean the Pink Team cant sail as a team?? someone is going 2 hav 2 explain in terms tht i will understand (suitable for blondes)

Hi, thanks for that looking forward to it all. and i asure u my boat will not sink anymore! It is having the rodger angell treatment! it was certainly a learning experience having 2 sail a sinking boat across a lake as a begginer with an even more novice crew and a safety officer who cudnt drive the boat and crashed into us then left us sinking... it is something that is not 2 be repeated. But keeping my eyes open for anything going around for the youth opens as i dont think i will be a confident enough helm by these events so if u need a crazy crew then let me know. But going to get in training anyway now Pink Team has a coach!!

Hi
Thanks for the info about "sea events" it has sort of settled me about the idea alot. But still dont think a paper dart that has previously sank is up 2 the job!!! But i was thinking if there is coaching available perhaps we could have this at the mere on a date... i can see the advantage of having it alongside an event, but we are so keen here at olton to do something and have said so a dozen times. It is a very challenging place 2 sail as everyone who has sailed there will back us up on, and looking at the other places it offers something different. It is easily acessable to all being nr birmingham etc. Also we are able to host dates that is not our ordinary 12 open day.  So please may the mere do something, we are keen.
Mere is currently home to 4 youthboats. and hopefully going 2 get more going as "The Pink Team" is trying to convince more youngies that 12's are COOL!!!!:P

Hi
thanks for publishing the dates... but i agree with omsc that perhaps on cud be on our home ground at olton as with probably have the biggest 12 youth fleet around at the momment and our boats are deffinately not suitable for the sea and we have not sailed on the sea before.

Hi
was wondering what is going on about the youth series... and other series in general this next year regerding dates? As a previous thread on the youth series said that dates would have been released the next luch time and it is a few days on since then!! Was wondering as I and other "Pink Team"have many exams coming up this year and with parents as taxi drivers we need to plan many months in advance ... and so we know what the 1st date so we can get rodger to fix bits to them by then!!;D

Thanks Moonshallow

Hi
Who ever is going to sort these events out, please can you come up with possible dates sooonish . As a few of us have exams coming up this summer. So we need to know!!! We are all so keen here at O.M.S.C. but have exams, ranging from gcse's AS levels and uni exams. We do not want to miss out on our sailing though!!!;D

The idea of a youth series is really good, and i have noted my interest in a previous board! How ever i think one comment above should not be part of the whole scheme of things... pubs and clubs. This is partly because i am not old enough to go??). But only foxisailor from Olton Mere is 18. I think the idea of a youth series is to be inclusive of everybody in the age limit. Drinking shud perhaps be arranged sepparately and the emphasis be on the sailing.
I think the races wud be best run independantly of other 12 events. So we can have a good battle between us, and not also be disheartened whn we get lapped by the "main fleet"! This might also mean that more people will beable to come along as they are not at another event, and might be able to borrow a boat.
I think a series of 5 events, with best 3 to count. One could most possibly be at the mere on a day other than the normal 12 open date, having spoken to Foxisailor. Also it might be nice if there was some training run by the side, so have help to make us go fasterrrrr!!!
These dates would obviously have to ne sorted out soon. as we need to where and when we are going!!

Boats / Re: N2823 Moon Shallow
09 Nov 2008, 05:58
Have sailed her a few times since my dad bought her on Good Friday, with supprising bursts of speed for an old knacker!! Everyone was surprised how well i sailed her on a couple ocasions...not knowing how i did it. Well neither do i to be honest!! But sadly she is off the water at the momment as i capsized her and she sank. But just to clarify that was not my fault!! The bouancy tanks were sealed up by a previous owner and had already had water in...not tht i knew this at the time, we just thought she was heavy! water found its way in through holes.
So on capsize the tanks commpletely filled up with water along with the rest of the boat! Not pleasant with seeming both of us the boat at the time were 12 and 16 year old girls!!! Well i managed to sail it back to shore and about 10 people were required to pull it on to shore full of water. Where someone managed to prise open the bouancy tanks and out came alot of smelly water.
So currently the boat is having a revamp...so it will be fully water tight, new cleats for the kicker and have a new look outhaul so no screws from the boom attacking the crew-disadvantage of that is that the crew wont move as quick anymore:-/. ohh and best of all a new trolley so no more cast iron which equals no more runaway boat down the ramp!!
Hope to add some pictures soon of the new and improved moon shallow

Wow what a great weekend!! Really enjoyed myself and so did the rest of the Pink Team. Hope to get Matt French out on the water soon as Pink Team Coach!!! Thankyou to everybody who took apart in organizing the event. And a special big THANKYOU goes out to Jon Brown who but up with me for the weekend... and for once i didnt deafen my helm!!! I am now a big converted 12 sailor looking forward for more events... hopefully sea or more wind as anything compared to saturday will seem boring now sadly. Hope to see lots of 12's at olton mere next year! And if you are even lucky i might brave my own 12 onto the water for that event... but sadly its not pink??)

i think i proper organized youth series is a good idea. as i hav thought about swaying to the rs200 as it has a bigger youth scene. but i love my 12 as it is alot better for where we sail and more affordable for youths to get into sailing them.

Hi
Was wondering if anyone needed a crew for Northampton. I am available as sadly my boat is off the water ??). I am a keen 17 year old that has recently taken to 12 sailing, since getting my own Moon Shallow a few months ago. I have experience of crewing in 12's but mostly in Enterprises having done a few opens crewing in one for a Kevin also a member of OMSC.
Will more than likely be there anyway that weekend with the others from OMSC, Le Shed, Foxi and Gordon.
So if you would like a crew please email me naomi.bilton@hotmail.co.uk
Thanks Naomi
