Can anyone help to transport a vintage boat from Colchester to her new home near Reading in the next few weeks? She doesn't have a road trailer so the trolley would need strapping on to a road base.

ThanksZoe

David, Details below. They went out to the mail ilst on Friday night - presume you didn't receive a copy - maybe it went into your junk items?

Henley SC is hosting a coaching event and N12 open meeting over the weekend of 14-15 September. Coaching will start from 1pm onwards on the Saturday (bring your own lunch) and will be led by national champion Graham Camm.

After the coaching there will be a Twilight supper for all N12 sailors starting from 19.30 with food "of a nostalgic nature" (£10 for 3 courses, vegetarian options available).

If you are not attending the coaching but wish to come for supper please email Judy Saunders to let her know numbers (thesaunders@ntlworld.com).

Camping is available overnight at the club.

The open meeting on Sunday will start at 11am.

Lunch will be available and of course there will be the ever-popular afternoon tea on the Henley lawn after racing.

It would be helpful to have rough numbers for both days, so please email Carol Stitson if you are planning to attend (carolstitson@waitrose.com).

Boats / Re: N2492 Whisper 7

I purchased the boat in the mid-late 90's I think around 96-97 from someone in Basingstoke as I wanted to learn to sail and was looking for a first boat. Needless to say I didn't have a clue what a National 12 was but the owner told me that he used it to teach people to sail in ( I don't think this was true but he could obviously tell I knew nothing about boats) and so I naturally thought it would be suitable and bought it. Once I realised what I'd bought I then looked up clubs that sailed 12's and ended up joining Henley Sailing Club.  I never really sailed the boat much as it wasn't really the boat for a novice and I always struggled to find a crew and so sold the boat on.

Over the next few years it passed through the hands of a couple of other HSC members but it never really got sailed much as it always leaked like a sieve, one assumes because it was originally glue together with Aerolite which was failing. Eventually the boat ended with someone who moved abroad and N2492 was abandoned in the dinghy park for a few years. Being aware of it's place in N12 development,  in around 2006 I suggested to the club committee that it should be advertised on the N12 website to see if someone would save it.  From memory no interest was shown in the boat, however after some while it was collected by Phil Pope from Severn Sailboats for a donation of £35 to club funds. I believe Phil's plan was to restore the boat and campaign her himself, though I'm guessing this never happened but it would explain how she ended up as a wreck in the Worcester area.

Attached is a photos I took of the in the Henley boat in 2006 prior to her collection by Phil Pope, as I recall the sails were by Alverbank and were in better condition than the rest of the boat!

She looks very smart. Nice work.If you want some tuning advice there are some guides on the website.  The best guides for getting started on the website are https://www.national12.org/hints/basic_techniques/ and https://www.national12.org/hints/coaching/. The more advanced set up guide is https://www.national12.org/hints/tuning_guide/

Whereabouts in the country are you? We may be able to hook you up with a local 12 sialor to give you some advice in person. Also we are running coaching events at Twickenham (4th Aug) and Henley-on-Thames (14th Sept) where you could pick up some tips and get help rigging.

This year 12Fest is at Ardleigh Sailing Club, Colchester on 6-7 July. It is a relaxed weekend of coaching and racing designed to get everyone going that bit faster on the water, with an emphasis on having fun. You'll gain something from the weekend whether you are a N12 novice or championship racer.
12 fleet regulars Graham Camm, Zoe Ballantyne & John Meadowcroft will be running the coaching. Coaching will focus on tuning, boat handling, boat speed and starting tactics. There will be debriefs at the end of each day to look at the video footage and see how much you've improved.

Free camping is available on site and camper vans can park in the car park overnight.

Ardleigh's caterers are unfortunately on holiday over the weekend we're visiting so please bring your own food for lunch both days and for Sunday breakfast. Sailors are able to use the club kitchen facilities, hot drinks and light snacks (crisps, chocolate etc) are available, but camping stoves aren't allowed.  We'll be heading to the Wooden Fender pub, just down the road from the club, for Saturday dinner, let us know if you'd like to join so we can book tables.

Entry is just £25 per boat

Coaching starts at 11am on Saturday 6th July. Let us know if you are coming and what you'd like to cover here

Club details: Ardleigh Sailing Club, Clover Way, Ardleigh, Colchester, Essex CO7 7PT (see http://www.asc.memberlodge.com/About-ASC for directions)

Very Hungry Caterpillar will be there and we'd like a camping spot please.

In addition to the racing, we are planning a talk on sea sailing and there will be bar boats and other games on Saturday evening, so come along and join the fun!

Are you good at persuading people to get involved?
Do you want to see your name in print?
If you said yes, then you could be the next editor of the world-renowned (ish) N12 Newsletter!  ;)
You don't need to be an expert in document editing software, Ed Willett (previous editor) is happy to give a tutorial.
If you're interested, please contact  ntoa@national12.org.
