Did the Round Sheppey race with Rosie White last weekend.  Definitely a brilliant event though quite full on doing 40miles in a 12 especially with a 10+ mile uptide beat in 15-20knots to start with!  And we finished 1st in the medium handicap which was a bonus on a great days sailing.

3497 is now at Hoo Ness YC in Kent looking very shiny and very much for sale  -  details in the For Sale section of the site.

Interesting to read Mark Rushalls notes - we did the split tacks with G&Z before the start and while we did make a gain (approx 3 lengths (ish)) it wasn't as significant as it evidently looked from the coach boat!  As for the rain  - it was definitely a bit heavier than drizzly when you were in it and so it seemed a good idea  to disregard the small gain from the left and head for the clouds on the right (especially after exactly the same thing happening in the first race at the 2001 Porthpean...).

Rick,
A hatchet board is a cross between a daggerboard and a centreboard.  We have a rule requiring the centreboard to pivot around a single point, but in this case the point is well forwad of where you would expect it to be and the whole board sort of lifts up as it rotates.  It does mean a shorter centreboard case (and so less water in the box etc) but is also a bit of a pain and causes some issues for the fit-out.  As you will have noticed your boat does not have one, and nor do the Winder Foolishes.

Also, the centreboard area actually reduces without moving the centerboard effort too far aft. added bonus side effect of keeping the section through the centreboard at a better AoA...
