Naburn Paddle
1st June 2025

Challenging conditions
Strong wind funneling down the river

Prize winners
Tim and Chris Hampshire
Just 2 National 12’s arrived at Naburn to sail for the Naburn Paddle, with the strong wind forecast having put off the other two that were expected.
The match racing was exciting for the spectators as the crews struggled to cope with the gusty conditions, though the pattern of the races was the same throughout the day. Tim & Chris Hampshire, sailing Carbonara, N3502, generally got the better start and coped with the wind better than Philip David & Ben Kilner in N2545, Little Meg. Only in the slightly lighter winds on the third race did Philip & Ben start to catch up with Tim & Chris, but it was all a bit too little too late!
Thus Tim & Chris took home the Jubilee Cup for the first race and the overall Naburn Paddle, while Philip & Ben retained the vintage trophy. Thanks were given to Larry Gray for the race management and to Fran Hyett for producing the usual excellent lunch & afternoon tea & cake!
