Five years after our first visit in 2021 Shoreham SC are welcoming the Twelves back for Burton Week 2026. The plan is to make this a memorable event for our 90th Anniversary and we hope to see new National Twelve sailors joining us.

Launching is down the wide slipway in the dinghy park straight out into the sheltered harbour with a short sail to the race area. You can experience sea sailing in a large fleet alongside other Twelves.

Social events take place at the Club each evening, except for the Burton Week 90th Dinner which will be held at the Sussex Yacht Club in Shoreham.

There is limited camping for tents and campervans therefore booking is required. Also there is free council car parking alongside the club site.

Family and friends can visit the local area, Chichester, Worthing, Hastings, Battle and Arundel are not far away.

Entry

Entry is open to any National Twelve owner and there are prizes for various ages and designs of boat.  Also for different ages of helms and crews!  Early entry discounts are available.  You should however note that: THERE IS A CLOSING DATE FOR ENTRIES!

Racing

Measurers will be available on Friday afternoon, and Saturday morning before the briefing. They offer you the chance to check the weight of your boat. This is voluntary but useful to know and saves time if you are chosen for measurement later. Add your name to their list on arrival and they will give you a shout when they are ready for you.

New sails or if changes have been made? – Please arrange to get measuring done before Burton Week. If that is a problem then contact the Chief Measurer before the event to see what can be arranged, see the ‘Contacts’ below.

The briefing will be at 10.30am on Saturday the 29th August in the boat park or inside if wet.  The race programme and local information etc. will be explained and questions answered.  The first race will start at 13.00 hrs, but leave plenty of time to sail to the race area.  The scheduled race start times for each day’s racing are shown below.

All Official Notices will be posted on the Official Notice Board at https://sailevent.net/noticeboard/1aj.

Note that the Hornet Class will also be holding their championships alongside the Twelves.

Sponsors

allen logo are sponsoring our 90th Anniversary Burton Week as part of the Blood Red National Series. They are suppliers of clothing and accessories and are currently offering a range of 90th Anniversary T shirts and hoodies. Bow stickers may be available at Registration.

Allen an Essex based supplier of fittings and Dinghy Shack a supplier of clothing and all things sailing will also be supporting the event. We hope to have additional sponsor prizes for the young sailors wherever they sit in a Twelve.

Buddies

Everyone will be part of a buddy team. The Gypsy Trophy will be presented to the winning Buddy team with prizes. There will be more details about the teams later in the year.  The aim is for each team to have a mix of experience and skills which they can share, hopefully those new to Burton Week or the Twelve Class will find this useful.

Trophies

Entrants automatically qualify for most trophies, but some require a choice to be made in advance on the entry form. Your entry acknowledgment will confirm your choices, but please advise us if anything changes. If this is at the event then advise the N12 Race Office before any race results are prepared please! If you have any queries contact: ntoa@national12.org Any trophies won last year need to be returned to the N12 Race Office suitably engraved and shiny please. Please hand these over as soon as practical, but before the start of the first race.

Tallies

There will be a helm and crew tally system in use for safety and as your race declaration. This year this will be an online system – details will be available here later or at the Saturday briefing. If you forget to tally the penalty is to lose your position in any races on that day, or you need to pay a fee to the Race Office to be reinstated! This fee will be donated to the RNLI.

Socials

The ‘Galley’ will be providing food throughout the event from breakfast to evening meals and snacks to take afloat. Some booking may be required.

Friday

Early arrivals and measuring - The bar will be open, but only snack type catering available.

Information on local takeaway outlets will be available in the clubhouse.

Saturday

This is a ‘Welcome’ evening for both the Twelves and the Hornet Class with food and the bar open.

Sunday

This evening is the 90th Anniversary Burton Week Dinner at the Sussex Yacht Club in Shoreham. The dress code is smart casual, not black tie. The venue will be open from 19.30 hrs with the meal served at 20.00 hrs.

Following the meal, and providing the Burton Race has taken place, the Sir William Burton Cup and any related prizes will be presented, and of course the infamous Burton Brick. If you can’t make the dinner please drop in later for the prize presentation.

Monday

The National Twelve AGM will be held at 17.30 pm in the clubhouse, with food available afterwards.

Your AGM papers will sent in a mailing from our Webmaster about a month before the event. You should take a copy to the meeting. No paper copies will be available. The Committee would like to hear what the members want from the Association, so please join us. We welcome all your views, although any scheduled vote is restricted to members only.

A social evening will follow in the main club room.

Tuesday

After the racing is complete and while the results are worked out food will be available followed by the Burton Week Prize-giving.
